I don't think it is paranoia if they act with all means neccessary in such cases. That's their job. If it turns out that nothing serious did happen -- fine, but as long this isn't absolutely clear they better be careful.

I think you've become overly paranoid since Sept. 11, but in this case, it was not paranoia. Planes have proven to be effective weapons, and another attack is entirely possible. Firing the alert when a plane enters the no-fly zone (which I bet all pilots know well) is pretty normal. It's like calling the anti-bomb team when someone abandoned his luggage in the airport.

I have seen the images on TV. Actually, I couldn't see anything. No planes, no fiery explosions, nothing. Just a cameraman running down the street capturing blurred images of the sky with his shaken camera.
