The way to the finals
Well, since no one else is starting this up, I'll give it a go.
It seems to me that we need to take care of the following steps before we can proceed with the finals game:
- Admin Participation/Confirmation (Elucidius? Are you still running this show? Could Micaelis join you perhaps? PAL trusts him to be unbiased. )
- Map Creation (are we using the same criterion as last time? Hopefully yes, to save us some discussion time)
- Rule Amendment
- Team Confirmation and Roster Update
- Team Civ Selection
- Team Play Order
- Begin Play
It seems to me that an excellent target date for this exercise would be July 1? Let's get going! |
I posted this reply:

Hmmm, with a possible start date of July 1, maybe we can possibley set up a "Marathon" session on the July 4th weekend (ugh, 4 July is a saturday, no 3 day US weekend....) to burn up a few turns. We could run a "chat" of the main players to pass the save on and quickly notify the next inline. This way, we would have had atleast 1 turn for discussion/planning before the weekend.

As of this post, no other responses
Let's get ORGANIZED!!!! hehe

Usually I have entered the chat but with one exception I was always alone in the IRC channel
The other option is to have orders from the ministers (which doesn't mean we should not play in live chat sessions) but this was almost abandoned as practice too.
So, generally, we play using orders from the ministers which may be posted while we wait for the save to arrive. Once it arrived we go in a private channel on apolyton.net ad we play the turn while discussing moves.

I did not enter IRC since the end of the game. Before this I had no problem with apolyton.net IRC
I'll check once I get home

I can't connect either. Looks like poly IRC is totalled still.
Here's the relevant section from CivIRC's Terms of Service:
quote: VI. Special needs channels
Special needs channels for the Intersite Democracy Game can only be found with the permission of the Network staff. Internal game team communications and special needs channels on the CivIRC network are only granted to accredited ISDG game teams. Officially accredited ISDG game teams are at the moment Civilization Gaming Network and Civ3 Brasil. Non accredited ISDG game teams or members of those teams, are not allowed to use the CivIRC network for their internal game communications or to found new ISDG related channels. Any game team or member of those teams, found violating this explicit rule, will be immidiately denied access to the CivIRC network and reported to the appropriate ISDG representatives. |
I went to the helpdesk channel on their server to find out what becoming "accredited" entails.
quote: ChanServ #helpdesk Welcome to CivIRC Helpdesk! Please wait a moment for someone to respond. In case nobody is available, we recommend sending e-mail to helpdesk@civirc.com. Thanks for your patience!
Kloreep Hi
Rasbelin Hi!
Rasbelin How may I help?
Kloreep I'm wondering how ISDG teams become "accredited"
Kloreep Poly IRC is still not up, so it looks like we need to find a new server for the final C3C ISDG found
Kloreep If we'd like to locate here, what would we have to do?
Rasbelin It's a simple process. It's just limited to make sure not unwanted people do it.
Rasbelin The Poly ISDG team I guess?
Kloreep Yep
Rasbelin Okay.
Rasbelin Just join the channel with the name wanted and then register it.
Rasbelin Then you need to limit access to it and make it invisible.
Kloreep Okay, so basically you just need to know it's a legit team channel?
Rasbelin Exactly and that I know it's protected.
Kloreep Cool. Mind if I post this conversation to our forum?
Rasbelin No problem.
Rasbelin I recommend naming it #apolytonisdg.
Rasbelin Or something along the lines.
Rasbelin If you need help with the channel configuration, just let me know.
Kloreep Thanks.
Kloreep I don't plan on registering it just yet, but I imagine I or someone will be later |
So, unless there's somehow a better option, I suggest we set up a channel.
Edit, some info.
quote: Rasbelin You need the following settings. Use mode lock to set permanently channel mode +nsV and for ChanServ settings, set topic retention, secure ops and... and... lemme see.
Rasbelin Oh, and then you need to decide how to limit access to only those wanted.
Rasbelin Perhaps a channel password?
Rasbelin Or then you can use access lists. Then all users must be registered.
Kloreep Channel passwords work properly here, then? (On poly IRC they never did... you could access an empty channel without the password, and then you'd see it being set)
Kloreep If passwords work properly, I imagine that would be the easier option
Rasbelin I wouldn't have mentioned it, if they don't. Sure do.
Kloreep Okay.
Rasbelin Yes, it's easier, but the most secure one is only allowing the ones chosen. However I assume you can keep the password secret just fine
Rasbelin So mode lock should be: +nsVk passwordhere (like +nsVk mzo-r0xx0rz)
Rasbelin That means you have to use /join #channel password to join.
Kloreep Okay, thanks.

OK, everyone's had enough time to find these forums. The next step before we can start the game is vote for map preferences. There is a special forum set up for map generation discussion here, and when your team has finished polling on the map characteristics you would like, the captain should post the official vote in the proper thread in that forum. The deadline for voting is Saturday, June 11, 2005.
At the same time, we need to get the rule set nailed down. Your team should already have been discussing changes you want to make to the rules for a couple weeks now. If a team has an amendment they wish to propose, the team captain must create a thread detailing the proposal. All amendments MUST be submitted to the UN by Saturday, June 11, 2005.
As far as deadlines go, they exist for one purpose and one purpose alone, to get the game started on time. It is hard enough to coordinate six large civilization sites as it is, so I would appreciate it if you do your best to keep the deadlines. I know you all want to get this game started, and it isn't that far away. Now is the time to dig in.
A copy of this message will be PM'd to the team captains, as it is quite important (except for CDZ, who has yet to name a team captain). |
