Yeah, that's what I get for posting w/o reading the entire thread first.

Sounds as if Emp Fab got lucky in that the person he stabbed has no standing in the community.

If it was, say, another student, one whose parents have deeper pockets than a homeless person, he'd be screwed. And my advice would be more valid.

Yeah... I agree. But it seems that the police are being sensible, and in truth, even though they are the pig scum agents of fascism (TM), there tends to be a lot more common sense in police departments when it comes to these things.

There are actually plenty of alternative scenarios:

There is a lot of "decent people" who come from a background, or a culture of "honour" or **** like that, and getting into a brawl, incl. melee weapons with them is easier than what has happened.

many kids do in the uk aparantly - they are considering bringing in metal detectors for tube stations and on buses.

Fabulous gets my benefit of the doubt - at the end of the day he was the one attacked, he didnt initiate the encounter, he just wanted to go home after a good night out.

The criminal probably got what he deserved for his actions imho.

Good job Emp getting that mess sorted out

But you took a huge risk. The rule is you generally give muggers anything they want. Especially at night. Daytime muggers are usually pretty harmless because you can't do much in broad daylight, but at night its a completely different animal. Some of these guys will mug in packs with one guy doing the actual mugging and others standing by to surround the victim if things get ugly (like in your case). And if things were to turn against you, you never know what alley you're going to get dragged into or how many guys wanting to skull **** you will be there waiting. A jackets just not worth it.

By the way, what part of the city are you living in? Since you're a suburban college student I'll assume somewhere along the green line. If so you're lucky that you're not going to find much gang activity in those areas.

Well it is generally advisable not to pick such a fight but you did well this time lad, but it does strike me as a lot of luck with the situation - it alarms me that others can put themselves in such a dangerous situation. for this time on giving the worthless piece of scum his just desserts but in future (if there is an 'in future', hopefully not) you don't know what he could potentially be backed up with!

So this guy has a rap sheet a mile long. Drug possession and distribution, assault (not just on me), and he's also a registered sex offender. Now I'm pissed that he WASN'T in jail.

I'm pretty much in the clear. I told them the story. It's self defense. I also have no record whatsoever. They also don't often get petty muggers, mostly because people give them what they want.

Personally, I can't believe I did that. What the **** was I thinking? I could've been killed.

But I still have my jacket .
