Damn.. I'm just watching Rocky again, of course as a kid this was a cool movie because it has sly in it, you know the battle of the 80s and early 90s, who's better, sly or arnold.. I guess pretty universal subject at those times.

Anyway, so later on I always thought that the movie sucks, but I just liked it because I was a kid and sly was in it. Now I'm watching Rocky again, the first one, and this is actually a really really good movie. Has something in it.. this strange draw.. great character building, and somehow sly is very likeable character but mysterious but also good.

Very good movie after all, just as a movie.

I agree the sequels were generally inferior to the original Rocky. With the possible close exception of Rocky II.

Speaking of boxing movies, I saw a press screening of Cinderella Man a few days ago. A great movie with some awesome boxing scenes.

Speaking of fighting, what ever happened to the PKA (Professional Karate Association)? I remember watching some awesome bouts 20-25 years ago. Or did they move to PPV too?

On a sidenote I just saw Rambo last night and I'm going to see the sequels to them soon
Until last night I have never seen any of the Rambo movies, but now finally I know what's it about (or at least the first movie)

I'd hit it with that cartoon Russian chick.

There are alot of good movies that have gotten a bad rap because of their sequels and when they were turned into franschises.

Rocky, Rambo, and Robocop all fall into this category.

Robocop is brilliant because of the Orwellian satire in the movie.

There is a director's cut of Robocop. Apparently it was so bloody that alot of the gore was cut out of the movie to get it to an R rating.

Yeah the one thing that really sucks in Rocky movies (except in the first one), is that Rocky always is in shambles, not in good shape, a prominent fighter steps up figfhting him, he needs to get in shape, first is disappointment, realisation of the situation, getting back in shape to some nice tune and some semi gay images of training, then coming on strong to the fight, where he takes the first 8 rounds direct hits, threatens to kill everyone who would stop the fight, is about to go blind, steps up, last round he starts pounding the opponent like he was supposed to do all the time and wins CLOSELY but convincingly enough and is the hero.

I mean jeesh, give yourself a break and fight the guy when the bell first rings. Would be easier, AND healthier.

"Rocky" is one of the few movies set in Philadelphia that portrays Philadelphia realistically..

I was at the Art Museum just yesterday and thought of "Rocky"..

Rocky III and IV have some of my favorite one-liners of the series. Rocky I is my favorite of the series though.
