Looks pretty sweet. But... 9 $/month for custom graphics? Not sure if they will be able to keep the MMO support for long.

(Of course, their main idea is that the income will mostly come from people visiting their site, which would propell their other products, like WindowBlinds and such, but...)

Here's hoping it works out.

i saw the title and thought it sounded cool - a society simulation, and from Brad Wardell. Instead its a MMO RTS, with a different business model. Brad seems focused on his current obsessions - customizable content and new distribution methods, more than the kind of serious game im interested in.

Sounds interesting, the concept of opperation more so than the game for me.
Its good to see people out there trying to give us something other than big brand blandness(with big buck prices), so i hope it works out

Why would this be special? Online empire building games have existed for a long time already, right back to the BBS days. The only new thing here is that its RTS instead of turnbased.

On first glance this looks like the kind of game I've been looking for over 10 years. However I just read one gamespot quick review so far so who knows? /shrugs

Something to keep an eye on though. How will they make it fun when your province gets razed while you're offline? Better not go on vacation!

Interesting idea, though I feel strategy gaming works better at the multiplayer level rather than the massively multiplayer level. In RPGs, a Level 99 character is still just one character, but with strategy games its easy to gain an exponential lead.

I wonder if the box art looks anything like this?

O2 Online Entertainment's Mankind was my first and only exposure to persistent online universes. I'd tried the free, limited version and like what I saw so I bought a hardcopy of the program from EB when I saw it and played for a little while. Like the term implies, the limited version only allowed access to a few techs and a maximum number of units and the full version was full access and unlimited units. However, a few months of playing my account got wiped. I was supposed to have a full account for a full year and I got less than six months. They f*cked over a lot of people that way. $50 down the drain. The game has since changed hands, so maybe I'll return to the game later. I'd gotten a decent little operation going out on the far fringe of the galaxy where I found a single sector that had all of the resources in decent quantities. Moreover, it was just a few max-distance freighter jumps from an Imperial System (safe zone for all players, maintained by game operators), so I was pretty well setup for a good run. *Sigh* oh well.

But Society looks interesting too...
