'New Programs Added', or something like that. Suffering from ads?

This message appeared in my start menu when I went to shut off my comp last night, but I hadn't added anything or done any downloads. McAfee virus scan detects no viruses.

Should I reformat my hard drive (time consuming pain) or what?

Got spare money?

Make certain McAfee is properly updated (manually look for updates) & make sure it's scanning everything (right-click on red M next to clock, go to Virus Scan, wait for sub menu to open, then select Options, click Advanced button, and make sure it's set to Scan for New Unknown Viruses, and set to scan All Files.) You may want to do an Ad Aware scan too, just to be safe. You can also initiate a System Restore (but don't follow through unless necessary), just to peek and see if anything was added yesterday (new Restore point.)

It tells me what got downloaded. I clicked on the 'new programs added' message, and it highlighted McAfee.

Must have gotten an update and not noticed.
