If that was the start, RP had the best capital in the game...My personal view of the capital starts (that is simply the 21 tiles within the capitals borders) would be something like this:
- RP; +5 Food, shields, gold, it had everything.
- GoW; +5 Food as soon as you chopped the game forest, Shields from Bonus grasslands, and the wine hills when you got out of Despotism, and a river.
- Vox; another team with a four turn pump. Problem was that there was no where for the food to be turned into shields, ie no hills. Pity about being the only team without a river river, if you had had a river, I wonder how may more Immortals you could have upgraded with all that extra gold you could have generated.
- ND; Again with the four turn settler pump. Mountains fr theshields, and an extensive river
- GS; Floodplains aren't great, but you can get +5 food with them, even if it is impossible to have a four turn settler pump with them (unless you have a mined iron hill or mountain for the new labourer to land on). The Furs helped a lot in gold, and shields, making the plains act as bonus grassland in the early game, and hills in the late game. Very useful, the furs where.
- Lego; Damn that is a lot of jungle. You did very well to get out of that start. I'd have rated it the worst start if it was not for the fact that Lux were the only team without any tiles that generated more than 2 food per turn, it really loked that bad...
- Lux; what is there to say? No bonus food, and no floodplains, there was simply nothing there...not even hope, or at least not for long.

Being honest, though, If you expand the area that you take into consideration to say, circle (OK, in this case, a rhombus due to the way tiles work) 8 tiles radius from the capital, the Order changes to something like this:
- GoW; 2*four turn pumps, plenty of hills and rivers
- RP; Who are in a similar position, with their backs to the coast but huge and productive lands to the south
- ND; I just like the lay of the land. It is not as good as GoWs, but it is very productive, both in terms of food, shields and gold. I understand that there was a large jungge, but it was not so large to greatly damage early growth and production
- Lux. I'd say "Run of the mill" sums up everthing there is to say here...
- GS; this basically includes everything south of Dissidentville. In the right hands you can get a lot from it, but...it has one four turn pump, a five turn pump and a lot of gold from the sea, but not much else. Including resources...
- Lego; pretty much nothing but jungle to the south and west, and desert to the north, from what I gather.
- Vox; you guys had absolutly nothing. You had to rush to mapmaking and stake a claim to former lux lands, or kill GS. You tried...

Ah guys, you are typing faster than i can read. It has been very long since there was this much activity in the public forum. Not since the bobian war i daresay.
EDIT: That should be "the Patriotic War of Defense of the Fatherland™" to be honest
