exactly. What people do at night? They have wild sex and orgies, they do cocaine and hits of LSD and all kinds of experimentations with drugs, they study to exams, they sleep, they get wildly drunk, they play computer games, they hang out and have a bite of something, they go see a movie, they fight, they smoke weed, they drive around and look for some fresh meat, they are working in night shift, they listen to disco hits naked and dance in dark by themselves, they save their toe nails for later clipping and rubbing it on their armpits for smoking it later because urban legend says it gets you high, they clean up their places, smoke tires and chat up girls, they eat pizza, they dink soda, they wear jogging suits and want to be part of Sopranos family, they do amphetamine and listen to techno and dance until the ambulance comes, they try to get out of jail without without calling the parents, they are planning the next vacation, they are debating, watching Will and Grace and post on Poly to claim heterosexuals are the biggest target according to demographs, they are sitting in the toilet, they are contemplating new ways to cheat on exams, choosing new courses, dumping courses, wondering when it's all going to end, they are ... living like normal students live.

And just because they can't go to the mall late at night doesn't mean they want to go there to begin with.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Not just malls but also bars and pubs and discos etc.

But who cares? When I was a student I didn't have the money anyway. Just grab some cheap booze, or if you are lucky, hit one of the frat parties.

Of course, us geeks had less to worry about. Labs were open 24 hours a day

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I'm all southwest. I commute between Rathaus Steglitz (where the long pink S1 line is joined by the orange U9) and Potsdam or Griebnitzsee, depending on what day of the week it is (both at the south western end of the S1).

I just moved into my new place in D.C. and now I'm commuting from Columbia Heights/Green Line instead of Foggy Bottom and the Blue Line. The commute is going to be a pain in the ass.

No, I don't PH.

Boston doesn't need a subway system that extensive because its not an overcrowded zoo. Thats part of what makes Boston a better city than, say, New York or even London. In fact, many many New Yorkers move to Boston and call it "New York without the hassle", meaning you can find anything you can find in New York in Boston only minus the hordes of morons roaming the streets.

I imagine London would be similar.

And thats not completely true. The city of Boston is around 550,000. Boston and its immediate surroundings comes in at around 3 million. However, the Boston-Worcester-Lawrence-Lowell-Brockton region (or essentially the area where people can commute to Boston in an hour or so) is over 6 million people. So, Boston isn't a city for only 550,000 people, its one thats designed for 6 million people. Thats what makes Boston a much bigger city than, say, Columbus, Ohio... which has around 700,000 people but only has 1.5 million in the whole area.

So yeah, Boston isn't as small as people like to claim, but certainly it still doesn't compare to New York.

You do realize that Boston's metro is ~8 times smaller than London, and doesn't actually need this big a system?

No, metro Boston is 6 million. Greater Boston is 3 million. The City of Boston is 550,000.

As for CMU, Pittsburgh is not exactly a party town. Plus, Pittsburgh suffers from all the same weather ailments as Boston without the redeeming feature of being near a beach (at least in the summer) and having good seafood.

Jimmy seems to have his facts screwed up.

Worcester, Lowell, and Lawrence are not part of Metro Boston. Hell, I can get to Boston in 45 minutes and I live on the border of New Hampshire.

Metro Boston only includes the immediate areas. Worcester has its own metro area (its also in the ****ing middle of the state)

Nope. Worcester, Lowell and Lawrence are all included in the official census statistics for the Boston Metropolitan area. Its officially called the New England County Metropolitan Area (NECMA). Here's the official census data:

http://factfinder.census.gov/servle...1_U_GCTPH1_US11

Just scroll down a bit to the NECMA entry. Its 6 million.

And you're correct in saying that Worcester has its own metro, but you're forgetting that the Worcester Metro is part of the Boston Metro too. The Boston metro even includes some towns in New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Its sounds stupid, I know, but all cities do this and New England is a very small area.

No it doesn't. Thanks, have a nice day. Oh, and there's a huge difference between 6 and 12 million as far as transit needs.

That's retahded.

Also, the Public Transportation that is discussed here is Boston's. Boston's PT does not extend to Worcester, Lowell, etc by anything but commuter rail. Therefore, talk of Boston's PT being insufficient because it isn't good enough for 6 million is moot.

Philadelphia's Metro Area includes Wilmington DE and Atlantic City NJ. Should Philly then be faulted for its PT IRT those cities?
