	Lost and found Inflate your Upload Space

There's a story here about two 18-year old girls who found a bag containing 80,000 kroner (€10,000) in the street in the small town where they live. The black leather bag was on the sidewalk next to a garbage can, and one of the girls picked it up and zipped it open out of curiosity. Seeing all the money, she called her dad for advice and he told her to turn it over to the police.

As it turned out, the police had already gotten a call from a man who was missing the money, he had somehow lost it while on his way to buy a used car that day. So the guy gets his money and, as is the custom, rewarded the girls with a 10% share of the amount. The girls went clothes shopping for days, and everyone's happy.

Now the question is, how would you react to such a situation of finding a bag with €10,000 next to a dustbin with nobody around to claim it, or even witness that you found it?

I would check the local papers to see if somebody "legitimate" lost the money, and if so, then return it.

If there was no mention of the missing money in the press, I would assume it was drug money or some other illegal gains... and keep it without a second thought.

I've encountered this situation before, only with a smaller amount of money. I turned it in to the mall security office.

That amount of money? Well, you've got to be pretty stupid to lose that amount of cash...I rarely carry anything over £30 with me in cash...

Same as Ming, return it if there are signs of it being a legitimate loss, else, take it. Probably the main reason I wouldn't simply turn it over to the police is corruption - there would be a real high chance then of the police taking the money themselves (10k EUR is big money here).

I'm much less likely to be sympathetic to the average person who happens to drop a suitcase with 10000$ in it than I am to the average person who leaves behind his wallet with 100$ in it...

They might hold your feet to the fire for a couple of hours in a police station on the remote chance that they somehow caught you, but there would be no "big trouble".
