The Liberty Education Forum Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

Last night, I saw this incredibly powerful, profound, and moving play titled Altar Call in which one of my good older friends starred in with a minor role.

Altar Call is centered on a religious family (Baptist to be exact) and in this family, a mother of a gay son is torn between her son's needs and the demands of her father, who is a Baptist preacher.

The play portrayed the humaness of both sides of the family conflict very well -- it went beyond sound-bites and reached into the profoundness of questioning presumptions, values, and ideas that you always took for granted. But anyway, to the topic as indicated in the thread's title . . . . . .

During the 15 minute intermission, I went to get a snack and a beverage and then I picked up a large phamplet produced by the The Liberty Education Forum, informing readers of what this organization is all about.

I read it, and I became interested in it -- it really appealed to me. They are on a mission to reach out to moderate conservatives by attempting to appeal to the basic principle of fairness and liberty -- something that one ought to approve of, regardless if you're liberal or conservative.

Well today, I went online to their official website. And after reading about how the Liberty Education Forum claims to be a non-partisan organization in its efforts to educate people about issues concerning gays and lesbians, and distributing information for others on how to advance the cause for liberty, I found out who the president of this organization is . . . . .

Patrick Guerriero, executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans.

Now, hear me out. I have not decided to automatically disavow everything about the organization of which I initially found appealing. Even after I found out about the organization's president, I swallowed my doubt, and signed up to receive monthly, informative updates through e-mail about the organization's activities.

I intend to learn more about this organization before I become a more active member. I want to make sure this organization is non-partisan -- although, I would like to ask how they claim to be non-partisan when their president is an executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans. Perhaps that is a question I can e-mail them about.

Are there any Apolytoners who is familiar with this organization? Or anyone who is already a member? And for those who are interested in learning more, here is their website:

I can give you an e-mail address to one of my two gay Republican friends, and I'm sure they would be happy to tell you all about them.

Ok, seriously, here is a link to the Log Cabin Republicans:

Log Cabin Republicans

It's a political organization that sometimes stirs up controversy and debate within the gay community -- between those who support the organization and claim that the LRC members represent a more reasonable approach in gaining equality, and those who claim that LRC members are merely bowing to the Republican Party in favor of blind, unquestioning party faith.

I was hoping someone could give me their opinion on this.

Given the case as I have described above, would this not mean that the LEF's claim to be non-partisan is false? If I become an active member, does this mean I will have ties with the Log Cabin Republicans?

I would rather not associate with them, but if they are responsible for such a forward-thinking, activist organization such as the LEF I might have to reexamine my viewpoint of the Log Cabin Republicans. But even if I see them in a different light, I would still remain liberal -- I seriously doubt this means I'm becoming more conservative.

The last thing I need, is my two gay Republican friends bragging about how they're winning me over to the dark side if I ever tell them about my membership in the LEF, and they know its other connections.

I wouldn't call Libertarians a major party since they like got less then 1% of the vote in the last election. Generally of the two major parties they together take 49% and every other party shares the last 1%.

Not necessarily. Just because the founder/executive whatever is partisan, (and probably every other member), doesn't mean the organization isn't non-partisan.

The questions are whether they are all partisan the same way, and does the organization as a whole take stances consistent with that unidirectional partisanship?
