I saw some interesting Iraqi-on-the-street interviews.

Some Iraqis see this as further proof that the U.S. only wants to humiliate and shame Arabs.

But the anti-Saddam folks gloat that Saddam is being embarrassed by this. He is, after all, murdering scum.

Regardless of what a tyrant he is, he is still an ex-head of State and a long time symbol of Iraq. It's still humiliating to have an ex-head of State of yours paradaded around like this.

The Arabs are angry with us. But in Iraq, that anger is balanced against the fact that our enemies(the insurgent) in that country want to bring back eith another muderous baathist regime or a Taliban-style state. Anything which pushes fence sitters between us and the enemy away from us is a bad thing and a risk to American lives.

No no no.. this is different. If we want to fight terrorists, then we must play by the book. Of course there's the BS rhetorics claiming we must become the same to fight them, but that's just words and don't make any sense. It's not true because someone says so and it's a famous quote and it certainly does not apply to here.

If we want to fight arabs, change the fighting with terrorists who started it to start picking a fight with arabs, then that's the fight we started, and that's exactly who you do it, is to humiliate them and not give a ****. If we would see some westerners, bastards, but our bastards, being ridiculed in front of the world by arabs, them doing jokes, and making threads we don't give a **** the whitey started it and we're going to finish it. That would make many of us pretty upset.

I know the point is to make them see, people of Iraq, that look at Saddam he's not the man you thought he is, he's just a mortal bastard like everyone else. It doesn't matter what we think about it, it matters what people of Iraq etc think about it. They change needs to happen there, so is it a winning minds and hearts mission or **** everything up mission? Because there's no two ways about it. If they hate the US and west, and think the only mission is to humiliate them, then hell yeah there won't be a democracy and nothing else either, but even more hatred than before the war, more terrorists etc.

I mean, if it's illegal, doesn't mean it happened by accident.. but it doesn't mean it happened on purpose either. But.. in the end it happened so.. lots of people got upset.. my ass is a bigger target than before, your ass is too.. I guess not considerably bigger but bigger.

The thing is I don't care if Saddam gets what he gets.. he prolly deserves everything bad that's coming to him. If someone published pictures of me in my panties, I'd prolly celebrate it.

And I know where you're going though.. it's not like we need to play dumb and dumber and be pragmatic about it and say well, the arab world in general has no opinion of the US, Americans, western people etc. ****, they hate us!! And they did before the war. Prolly before the 9/11. It's true, some of them don't care about us, they just care about what the next day will bring but in general, they hate us.

Doesn't mean they will kill us. But they hate us. It's just a fact right there, and they have reasons to hate us too. To the extremists, does it matter to them that I haven't personally done anything to anyone? No. It's like prison riots when it gets racial. You can be there and make a statement that you don't hate anyone and that you believe everyone is equal, but it doesn't mean you won't get your face smashed in and worse. You just get sucked in it and choose side or not, you're still on a side already.

Do I believe the big conflict will happen? ABsolutely. At some point it will happen in bigger scale, because we never got along to begin with. It's not like the history shows our loving relationship. Who starts it, both starts it. Now, I just hope it doesn't happen in my lifetime. I hope we can get along at least that long. And when it happens, I hope the side I'm on wins.

Pekka, you're right, people can be pretty stupid. Hopefully not so stupid as to start WW3...but you might be right about that too.

Right now I see the world as a fairly safe place to be, but there are some spots that are hot or hungry. Maybe for the next 30 to 50 years the US will hold enough power to keep this a time of relative peace.
