a finnish alien mounted on a rock from space, powered by solar radiation and causing global warming and volcanos in Texas, while at the same time spreading mad cows all over the russians, who will retaliate sending nukes to the fwench, who then will flood the english and the finnish alien will then plague the chinese who will spread the virus to the americans and the americans powered by the wrath of god will destroy the rest of the world with banana blight.

I may have forgotten one or two catastrophes.

Heat can always radiate out into space, while the cold seeps in and can't be countered long term. We can burn fossil fuels to keep warm or get warmer, but when they run out...brrrrr.
