Oregon, $7.25 per hour. We seem to have survived.

Which means its $5.15 per hour. When state is lower than federal, federal is the law. When state is higher than federal, state is the law.

Oregon also has one of the highest unemployment rates among states -- 6.5% versus the national average of 5.2%.
I don't know what the employment rate is (what we should be looking at), but I bet that paints Oregon in an even worse light.

I got a casino job with no problem, and had another place I applied to call me two days after I got hired at the casino.

Well, it's 9% less employment, not 9% more unemployment. There's a big difference between the two. The study would be looking at the employment rate, where a 9% decrease is more imaginable.
Edit: Consider, for instance, the employment to working age population ratio of the US in 2003 was 71.2%, while in Italy it was only 56.2%. However, the difference in the unemployment rate was very much smaller, 6.1% for the US versus 8.6% for Italy.
The unemployment rate isn't irrelevant, but the employment rate is a lot more important.

Yeah, high minimum wages are really a killer for both companies and society. Luckily we don't have a minimum wage here, so we don't have your problems. Typical low skilled work are only rewarded with $17 pr hour, but we pay the dire consequences with an unemployment rate at a staggering 6 %. The same goes for the inflation wich is as high as 1 maybe 2 percent. Society are also crumbling since we have forced almost all women to join the labor force, so no mommies cuddling their children.
Fortunately we tax them hard (30-40%), but of course it's a drawback that we offer them free education, free medical treatment and social security.
Dear US polytubbies, fight hard to keep your minimum wages as low as you can so you don't end up in same horrible situation as we are in.

Nope, we are not a member of the euro, we still run the hard currency called danish crowns.

Did he say "hi", or some other variation of the same, the man that approached you?
I presume he did of course, I mean its rude not too. Especially if you're wanting somebody to sign something for you, but you never do know.
