Man 1 Bank 0 Support Apolyton

I came across this story today, while browsing the World of Warcraft forums. It's long - nearly 12 pages - but well worth the time spent reading it.

Basically it's a true story about a guy who deposits a junk mail check for 95,000 dollars, and actually gets the money. Really good reading.

Excellent story

Too bad it happened during the OJ Simpson trial, though.

Reading it almost made me smack my eyes against the screen. The guy's a bit self-serving though.

The show? The DVD? The reviews? The paypal account for tips? The fancy design of the site with his picture plastered to the left? Seriously, there's irritating whiff of a 15-minutes of fame nobody who hasn't realised it's just 15 minutes of fame.

Well, he was flat broke, and now that he has returned the check, I think he probably needs the money again...

I read this story long ago, before he had it on the fancy site and everything. It was fun to see it again.

Yeah, I admit he's probably just trying to cash in as much as possible, but it's still irritating.

Well, I started reading this story, and I've been enjoying it. I stopped at one section, and checked Apolyton, because I had only read the first post.

The section I'm currently reading is titled "Fifteen Minutes".

So I disagree with you

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

You can't really blame him for trying to cash in on it, though.

First and foremost, he was broke, and in my book that means that anything goes. Secondly, he returned the money, giving him a lot of credit in any case. And thirdly, he was ill-treated by the bank, something which many of us know, and none of us like.

I woudnt say he was Man 1-0 Bank though,
In fact, I'd say in Cashing the check, the bank making other ****-ups and him getting the media on the case, he was 3-0 by half in this story. By not even trying to keep his money, or running off with it to some obscure country he let the bank get back to 3-3 and they won on penalties

Thing is though, that the money were never meant to be his from the onset, so IMO he did the right thing.

They apologized unsincerely, and only because they were pwned, and their bullying techniques failed. They knew the law, lied about the law to their customer, and got pwned, big time. **** them.

Oh the apology had to be sincere then? It's a company dude, when a cashier says "hi", "thank you" and "come again", it's because its his friggin job, not because he sees you as a jolly mate of his. This is about as sincere politeness you can get. He compained about customer service, they rectified it.

And he's earning cash from it anyhow.

Suffering from ads?

The apology has to be sincere by the people in the company that bullied him and behaved in a rude manner. And since I think that they need to learn their lesson, I think that he should get the money ( or donate it to charity).

This is, of course, not the law, just my personal feeling.

Get a bigger avatar today!

He got an apology from the CEO, the CEO represents the company as a whole. If those people were rude in their function, the CEO rectified it in his function.

And neither is the law, but a personal feeling that the money wasn't rightfully his.

Besides, he may have won in a US court, but I doubt the same would have been in the case in Belgium, since we have a habit of paying a lot of attention at intent.

It's not just a company - it's also a group of people. All the people that mishandled his service should apologize to him, because they're *******s - let's make it clear, they ****ed up ( sort of ), and wanted to bully him into thinking that he's a criminal and a fraud?

again, **** them.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

They were doing it in their function. It wasn't like they were thinking "hey, I don't like that geezer's nose, let's pick on him!". The company's consumer service may have sucked but those people were just trying to do their job. And the CEO is their superior, so he's just as qualified to apologize as those people were.
Heck, most likely those people would have needed their bosses' consent to apologize in their function in first place - so what difference does it make?

Besides, read the story. First he withdraws the money from his account, mentions how wonderful this is being indebted and stuff, then starts fantasing about being rich and Lexuses, then he goes all Robin Hood and finally he's supposedly fighting a war of principle and decent consumer service. Whateverrrr.
