on request? That doesn't make sense to me. A unit could be killed which was forgotten due to not playing the turn in a few days. How would I know to ask for a battle report?

In this particular example, I think I know what went down I hope you think that was worth going to war over.

Quite right. I meant if someone requests them at the start of the game - for example 'detailed combat reports' or 'a brief summary' - like the IC Warrior Code.

And it probably wasn't worth going to war, being on accelerated production and all. But you are pulling ahead quite nicely so something had to be done..

okay, maybe we can agree to "brief summary" so folks are alerted to when and where their forces came under attack.

Maybe something like:
I attacked you south of city x
I lost 2 archers, killed two of your spearman.

No need to go into detail about hp, the sequence of attack, etc. How does this sound?



For the life of me, I don't understand why the developers didn't put this in the game...

Sounds good to me.

I don't know why battles couldn't be replayed to the defender either. I'm guessing the old Civ2/SMAC engine wasn't understood by the design team.
