Full PM-box? Change here!

I'm a little confused after reading all of the above. Will AoM install and play okay with the CtP2 v1.11 or are other patches/mods required? Are there any compatible mods that can be loaded before (or after) AoM and still work? Thanks.

No, at least none of the major ones.

Well, you can run them alongside AoM, but not on top of it. But it's still recommendable to have one install of AoM and one for the other mods if you want to be able to play other mods as well.

My experience was AOM ran faster if the other mod files were not all lumped intogether with the AOM ones.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

I am in the diffucult position of not being able to access the AOM folder to look at it without downloading it. That would exceed my MB limit for the month and take 10-12 hours, and cost me probably an extra $15.00 for the month.

So I am hoping that all the files were uploaded correctly.

There was a Readme and an Installation guide on the disc I sent to Dan.

Do you recall the names? I didn't see a readme.txt or an install.txt.

Sounds like you'd be better off buying the CD, it would be cheaper.

Out of all the Mods that preceded AOM, Cradle is the most similar to AOM because AOM uses just about all of the Cradle files as its basis. Most of what makes AOM different from Cradle is in what is added to AOM - new concepts like outposts, succession, scripted events, new units and techs, a more-focused AI, and updated and user-friendly graphics...

As the creator of Cradle, I view AOM as Cradle v2.0, and as such, Cradle is not needed anymore.

Can someone confirm whether the Installation and Readme files are in the AOM zip folder please.

In the meantime a copy of the Readme can be downloaded from here:
http://www.theagesofman.net/index.html

If the Installation files are not in the AOM zip folder, I will post them here as well.

Re: Installation Instructions/READMEs et. al. Support Apolyton

1. Look for "INSTALLATION README.doc" in the ZIP.
2. Upon review of the contents of the ZIP, "AOM.Main Readme.doc" is not in it as of this writing.

I have included both DOCs as a separate file, 5.2MB in size (http://aom.apolyton.net/zip/agesofman_documentation.zip), and have added a link to this documentation file from the original post that started this thread (http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...997#post3829997) .

3. "AOM.Main Readme.doc" will be added to the 'game' ZIP in the coming weeks; when this is done, it will be noted accordingly in the original post that started this thread.

Put an end to popups!

Two people have reported error messages for a missing file, AOM4_strings.txt. There is also a slightly updated Great Library file available from this link.

http://www.theagesofman.net/index.html

Just copy and paste them into your english/gamedata folder.

In response to the absent file 'AOM4_strings.txt' in the 'original' ZIP, and the updated Great Library file, you can download the update from the link below.

http://aom.apolyton.net/zip/agesofm...data-update.zip (302KB)

Extract the files to the root directory of where you installed The Ages of Man onto your computer. The two files within the file linked above should extract to the "english/gamedata" folder. A 'readme.txt' file is included in this archive that repeats these instructions.

I have added a link to this update from the original post that started this thread (http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...997#post3829997). This missing and updated file will be added to the 'full' download link in the coming weeks; when this is done, it will be noted accordingly.

Remove this text

I just finished downloading it, Looking forward to giving it a go

One question on installation:

In the installation readme it says,

"2) The AOM disc has a series of folders which match the same folders in CTP2"

This has not proven to be the case when I downloaded it ,

All of the files are in a single folder making it quite the task to sort everything into the required folders. Just wondering if this is a necessity and if so, does anyone know of a quick way to make sure that all of the files are going to the correct location?

Thanks,
C

Inflate your Upload Space

For reasons already explained, I am unable to check the AOM file at Apolyton.

The final folders with programming I sent were in the following format:

ctp2_program/ctp -inside which was one text file to replace, userprofile.txt.

default- inside which were a gamedata and ai folders. The CONTENTS of each folder were to be copied into the matching folders iside your ctp2 game.

english/gamedata and layouts-again,The CONTENTS of each folder were to be copied into the matching folders iside your ctp2 game.

Are you sure you have got all the folders?

I have just received a copy of the folders from inside the AOM zip folder so I can check them.

The folders are fine. C is probably just using ZIP software which doesn't support folders, he wouldn't be the first. C, I recommend you try again with different software (I use WinZip myzelf and have never had any problems with it), and if that fails download the whole thing again, because the file on the server is fine and uses folders as advertised.

I've been getting an error coming up saying that I'm missing AOM5_gl_str.txt, I checked the the download files and didn't see it, I assume that it's supposed to be in .../ctp2data/English/gamedadata.

I downlaoaded the update with AOM4_gl_str.txt in it, so I have that, ...

has anyone else had a problem with 5 not showing up?

I had the same problem. Copying AOM4_gl_str.txt to AOM5_gl_str.txt will make the game playable. Of course, you will be missing a few strings - e.g. the last 2 entries of the unit section of the great library (column builder and arch builder) will be blank.

Installing was a chore. I had problems getting Modswapper to install and manually loading the AoM files was slow. After I got past that and started the game I would an error about two missing sprites (I wish I would have written them down) then the screen after selecting "New Player" would be distorted. After a few tries, I got a game started and it is running okay so far. If I run into any further problems I'll let you know.

Thanks to everyone for making this possible.

Tired of ads?

Stan still has a few copies of the game left, and so do I. If you're interested in a new copy of CtP2 and want to support Stan while you're at it, order one from his website. If you want to get a new copy but pay as little as possible, check out the bargain bin of your local Mediamarkt, they should still have a few copies cheap. Failing that, contact me and I can mail you a copy from my local Mediamarkt (or you can come pick it up if you're ever in the neighbourhood) for costprice: €4 plus shipping (I never send national snailmail anymore, what does a stamp cost these days?)

I forgot to mention that I first tried to run the Dacian scenario before starting my current regular AOM game. When I started it I got a bunch of missing sprite errors even though they appeared to have been loaded correctly. My question is this: Is it possible that they should have been installed in the game's folder and not in the scenario's folder?

Everything seems to be going alright with my 5000BC game so far. It was interesting to note that Modswapper listed two identical AOM games. Is there any difference between the two?

Thanks again to everyone!
