Crowe was taken to a police station were he was charged with second degree assault. Crowe was in New York promoting his latest movie, "Cinderella Man," a biopic based on the life of world heavyweight champ James J. Braddock, which opened in theaters last weekend. According to Nielsen the movie ranked fourth place in theaters and grossed $18.6 million. Crowe, who won an Oscar for Best Actor in 2001 for playing Maximus in "Gladiator," has often been in the news for off-stage incidents. At the 2002 Bafta Awards in Britain, he admitted to being "abusive" and "behaving unreasonably" towards a TV producer. And later that year he was spoken to by police after an alleged brawl with a New Zealand businessman in a London restaurant. The 41-year-old actor married singer and actress Danielle Spencer in 2003.

I went to watch the boxing in Manchester on Saturday night when the Brit KTFO out of the Aussie (who's now probably a Russian again). Crowe got called into the ring and introduced to the crowd before the miain event - he got the biggest boo of the night!

He puts a *A LOT* of weight on inbetween fights and gets *A LOT* of abuse for it from (mainly) American fight fans, so when he turns up for interviews to promote his fights he doesn't look anything like a boxer. He fights at 140lbs but walks around at closer to 170.

Ricky Fatton is one of the terms of abuse the USA boxing fans have for him, the T-shirt was just a "f$%k you" to them.

Sounds very stupid of him, but let's face it. There are people who need to be hit with a phone once in a while. I give him the benefit of the doubt before I can judge how annoying that POS worker was. All I'm saying is, he deserved it, unless it is proven otherwise.

yeah seems to be the case. However I don't underestimate the amount of pr1cks he has to deal with every single day. Yeah it doesn't make it right, but I bet he has to deal with genuine punks every day and everyone of them is asking to be phoned. So it happens every once in a while then too.

Not really. One of my Daughter worked at the Silverado Country Club here in Napa and she see a lot of stars, and once in while she will tell us who is in town. She has told us that most of them are very nice to her.

I thought I read in an article that was longer that he had made multiple requests for his phone to be replaced which the staff ignored so he brought the phone down and threw it at the wall to force them to replace it and grazed the employee by accident.

I'm not saying which version is true, but both sides should be heard before people judge him.

We are talking about NY here. Rudeness and arrogance on employee's part are not unheard of in NY.


But having said all that, Russel was probably still being a jerk.

Yeah. His brother lives in my home town. I used to be the barman/wine steward at the trendiest restaurant in town. A lot of well-known people would come in early in the evening to miss the rush. He came in with his brother one day. Nice guy – you wouldn't look at him twice if you saw him in the street. I've seen him around town a couple of times too.

I didn't talk to him much besides the usual pleasantries and barman chit chat. I've got better things to do than fawn over celebrities. A couple of times I've had long discussions about philosophy and politics with well-known Kiwis without realizing who they were until after they left. One NZ rugby bigwig who I'd always thought was a complete idiot turned out to be one of the brightest people I'd ever met.

I can also tell you that Lucy Lawless (Xena) has much smaller boobs in real life. She is still hotter than hell though and I'd hit it.

I think he gets pissed off that people don't understand him. When he won the Oscar, people accused him of being ungrateful because he was self deprecating in his speech and seemed embarrassed.

There's a reason for that. If he'd done a Sally Field, he wouldn't have been able to go anywhere in Australia or New Zealand without people yelling "You Love Me!!" at him.

In truth it was obvious to every New Zealander that he was over the moon at getting the Oscar. It's just our way not to engage in extremes of self adulation in public.

Hmmmm... in doing a search...

I've found different stories.
Many claim he hit the person in the face...
Others claim the phone hit the wall first...

Some claim it was an employee that went up to his room to answer a complaint...
Most claim he either unplugged or yanked the phone from the wall and went down to the desk to "discuss" it.

They all agree he was pissed... trying to get his wife on the phone... and that a hotel employee was injured.

But my favorite is that he is being charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon
