Reign of Masuro Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

Masuro rises from his table at the inn, bids his fellow warrior kings farewell, and calmly strolls along the hedged path to the palace.
Taking his seat on the floor he asks his faithful woman servant Noriko to update him on affairs of the state.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Noriko shows Masuro a map of the kingdom, pointing out the barbarian tribes to the north and east.

"I do not think we have to worry about them for the moment. Let them be someone else's headache. But look at this. We have a group of people who will soon found a new city. Would it better to have them build in the hills where they will be safe, or on the grasslands where they have better access to food?"

Noriko answers, "My lord, such a decision is too much for a simple servant girl. I suggest we call in the other lords and ask their opinions."

"Simple serving girl, eh? If I recall correctly you found out the conspiracy to assassinate a former leader and then led our soldiers to the traitors' headquarters."

"Indeed, my lord. But it was luck and nothing else."

"Hmm. Anyway, please call in the others."

Noriko heads to the inn and announces that Lord Masuro needs the advice of his fellows. When they arrive, Masuro points to the map and says, "Shall we settle on the spot indicated by our first emperor or on the hill just below it?"

I'd very humbly sugest the proposed green city site as our first new city. Fish and Wheat adviable immedately. Hills adjoining as well to quickly convert that food into shields.

Micha, The one plains city site I see on the list would actually be the last of the 3 from capital cities I'd build.

Or are you sugesting a new city site?

3 from the green spot. There's not that much grassland available and there's more than plenty of hills around. Moreover, it's accelerated production so we'll do well enbouh on production.

I would go with the Hill 411 from the capital (numpad directions). We will need the Grassland later on for growth. Plus, placing cities too wide is no good anyway.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

The advisors leave and Masuro says, "Well, perhaps I should order the settlers to build on the grasslands."
Noriko pouts and says, "But lord, I so wanted a place to go and look out over the ocean. You know my home village is located in such a place."
"Ah, Noriko. How can I refuse you when you look at me like that. Very well. And I will name the new city Noriko's Seaview."
And so it came to pass.

As the settlers were preparing to build a new city, reports flooded in of Matsunaga settlers and warriors heading north. If they come near our new city I will have to ask them to leave, thought Masuro. But I will think about that later.

In July of 1458, the nation's second city was built on the hills overlooking the sea. It was named Noriko's Seaview and, considering the Matsunaga approaching from the south, a unit of Asigaru started training. Paddy the Scot's chain gang finished the road east of the capital and then headed for the forest to build a road for the beaver trappers.

One day that month, Masuro was walking about the palace grounds and thinking that the walls looked rather flimsy. I think we need to do something about that, he said to Noriko. Go tell the imperial thinkers to devise a way to build strong walls. We may need them should the Matsunaga prove hostile. And tell them They can have 5 gold talents to assist their research.

(That's what's happened so far. I will play more turns tomorrow. Comments welcome.)

Both this site and the grassland one were three tiles away and therefore 1 MP with roads connection.
The hill is fractionaly closer for ranking city purposes, that's it.

I see it's one turn away from the next settler too. I'd sugest the red site. That will allow the city to evenually share the whales which the alternative [probably the incense hills] would never use.

In addition, at the red site, this city does not bump the just founded city down in the city rank. It's exactly the same distance and therefore won by the other city (square root 10). the incense hills site would because it is exactly distance 3.

Yes, but if you consider similar spacing for all cities, the fractions here and there add up, giving quite a boost in general. The point about food was just as important.

I will add something on city spacing when I get some rest, and time to start GIMP. Tired. Must sleep now.

Just noticed the worker on the furs. If it hasn't done anything, I'd sugest roading instead of the normal chop - road - mine series because in this conquest choping forests is the pre-conquests slow rate.

I'm just refering to this city is going to have a lower rank order than it would have under the orginal. Which is always a mixed bag. Potientally less corruption here than other 3 tile city sites, yes! But potinetally more in the other 3 tile city sites.

That said, I can't think of a city I'd rather give the lower corruption too than one with plains wheat + fish.

On city placement, I see one proposed city that needs shifted in light of this shiftment, but it's a second rank city and therefore not in the immedate future with all the first rank cities we can build.

It's late, I'm tired. Here are the basics of what I did.

Jan 1459
The Matsunaga leave with their soldiers and settlers.
Bull Wheat revolts! I give them an entertainer.
Roading the furs begins.

July 1459
Order restored in Bull Wheat
Settler completed and Ashigaru started.
Reduced science a little to keep us in the black.
Settler sent on its way to the east.

Jan 1460
Ashigaru completed in Noriko's Seaview. Started worker

July 1460
Ashigaru completed in Bull Wheat. Barracks started
Founded Fragrant Harbour and started training Ashigaru

Jan 1461
Matsunaga build a city to our south. Someone is to our north but who?

July 1461
Noriko's Seaview completes worker. Granary started
Worker sent to wheat tile

Jan 1462
Ashigaru completed and Granary started in Fragrant Harbour
Furs are connected!

July 1462
We meet the Oda. I will leave it for the next leader to deal with them.
Foreign Ashigaru move near Noriko's Seaview. I moved a soldier to protect the worker.
