I wear Faded Glory canvas shirts I bought at WalMart for $12 each because they last forever. I still have canvas shirts I bought at GI Joes in 1990. Women's clothes aren't supposed to last, they're supposed to entise. Must be spendy.

So that means that either women vastly outspend men on clothing, or there are a vast number of closet transvestites in New Zealand.

If it were anyplace but New Zealand [or perhaps Wales] I'd bet the former.

The former is definitely true- There was a woman living in my building who had more clothing than the other 20 people combined. Her wardrobe (and this s only the part she'd brought to college) packed a 12-foot closet, breaking a 4 cm wooden closet rod.

Guys' fashions never really change, so we can get away with buying something and wearing it for 10 years. Women's clothes are sooo trendy, they have to buy new stuff every year, or even every season, and alot of their clothes will looked dated if they don't.

One of the best things about being a guy. You can wear the same shoes which you wore to uni 10 years ago, and you can spend four summers in the same pair of jeans .

Why are men not allowed to wear skirts?? It would be so much more comfortable than any constraining underwear.

The real male/female inequality is in changing size. Me, I've been buying 36/36 jeans and XL T-shirts for over a decade - no problem, I can walk into a shop and pick what I want off the rail.

Women? Some of them change size over the course of the month so they need everything in 2 sizes. They look at a bar of chocolate and put on 5 lbs and need a bigger dress size. Don't even think about what pregnancy does.

The real gender inequality about clothes is in shopping attention span. Mine is about 5 minutes. Hers is about 3 hours. We do go shopping together but I tend to wander off and look at other things a lot.

You can just walk in and pick 36/36 jeans -- no problem??? In my sad experience, anyone who needs xx/36 jeans has got a problem...

So sez my wife, who does the clothes shopping around here.

Yep. And add to that the fact that dry cleaners will charge more for a woman's silk blouse than for a man's silk shirt. That one used to drive my wife nuts, especially since one of my shirts uses at least half again as much fabric as one of her blouses...

My girlfriend pointed this out to me this morning. It's one of the great injustices in the the world that a woman cannot go to a park and take her shirt off like men can. Something as a society we must work on

Having worn a skirt inside when the wife (then fiancee) was washing my clothes, I have to agree. Not only is it comfortable, but quite cool on hot days, too.

If you're fat, there's no problem finding xx/36 jeans here.

Finding 30/36 ones, tho, is becoming hopeless. I was, unusually for me, in one of those expensive shops for trend-conscious young people yesterday, and they simply did not have jeans in my size.

Buying clothes in Toronto is fun. Canadians are smaller than NZers and my friend and I both had to go to the outsize store for a few items, like shirts that would actually fit across our shoulders.

Back home labels go up to XXL in every store. Here they only seem to go up to XL in most places. And why do Canadian men have such narrow shoulders? Are they descended from whippets?
