Positive things about people Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

I do not know what it is specifically that has gotten to me lately, but I have just felt more negative/cynical towards people in general the past couple of days.

Can some of you guys help me out? Share some uplifting, real stories about individual people from the past, or from our contemporary time that have accomplished something GOOD and constructive.

It can be a personal story of your own that you have shared before or would be comfortable sharing. Or it could be about a significant public figure from humanity's past or from our present.

Lots of folks from Poly built a house for some poor people in the Philippines. Zkribbler and Theben, two of the contributors, visited them with me last fall.

Yeah, when I first learned of that project I thought it was awesome.

Do you have any memorable, uplifting story from that experience that you can post here?

"Do you have any memorable, uplifting story from that experience that you can post here?"

Yeah man, I do.

We tried to find her father in Canada 'Terry Wayne Raymond Mills'. I had a thread on the subject. Lots of people stepped up and tried and gave ideas. Even DanQ, who I thought might live near him, offered his assistance. Marcos had the threads topped, one after another. Anyway, we couldn't find Karen Mill's father. During this Derek , 'Ted Striker' now, offered to send her $200 to relieve her poverty. Well, when Karen and her mother got that money, the first serious money they ever had, they broke down in tears in relief. Ted Striker did that.

Karen and her mother, Sofronia, ate good and bought things they really needed, for the first time in Karen's life. That's Ted Striker :sniff:

i was sick as a dog one day - so sick i had a hard time just concentrating in class. after school we had a soccer game. i play center midfield, where there is tons of running. i told coach to put me in. for the first 20 minutes, i was dying out there, so i switched to stopper, where there is less running. five minutes later, we had a free kick pretty close to the other teams penalty box. i go up, grab the rebound and put it in, a hard, low shot from 18 yards out, right inside the left post. 1 - 0
ten minutes later, right before halftime, we had another freekick outside the other teams penalty box. again, i go up. this time they pass directly to me inside the box, and i put it away again, in the exact same spot. 2- 0.

halftime. im drinking water like no other, im on my back on the field, very exhausted. coach asks me if i wanna come out, i say no, and tell him to switch me permanently to stopper. we put an inexperienced guy in center mid, because we were not a really deep team. i feel totally drained, but i go out there anyways.

in the second half, the other team completely dominates; there is no linkage between our midfield and our offense. the replacement center midfielder is not capable of winning the balls in the middle and distributing them to the strikers, or the wingers. the ball is always in our defensive third. we play pretty solid. the other team gets more physical, and its getting harder and harder to keep up with their deep runs. we have hardly any rest because as soon as we clear the ball, it comes back because we have no offense. the other team scores a soft goal, and its 2 - 1

the rest of the second half continues, and im being run ragged, but the end is near. its the 91st minute, with only two minutes of stoppage left. the other teams goalie punts it, the other team gains control and streaks down the left side, their last desperate gasp.

i too was desperatly gasping. our left defender got beat, the sweeper ran out there to cover, and he too got beat, now it was our goalie, the man with the ball, me, and the man i was marking, who was also streaking from the right side. our goalie comes out and makes a partial save, but the ball and their winger gets by him, the winger sees and open net and puts a medium strength shot to the goal for the equalizer.

but it never got there, because while he had his head down, i left my man, sprinted down to the goal line, everywhere hurting and gasping for breath, and i beat the ball to the goal line and cleared it out of bounds instants before the game would have been tied and over.

so you see, you can always do more then you think. before the game, some people thought i was being selfish for playing in the place of someone who wasnt sick. they said i was doing it for myself. but you see, i didnt do it for the reasons the cynics thought i was. i did it because special things happen, and that was one of those days when even though you are hurting all over, you still feel victory inside of you.

Okay, it takes a certain pomp and circumstance to enter a thread entitled "Postive things about people" and post a testimonial to oneself.

I was sick and played and saved the game, not for selfish reasons, just because special things happen.

Inspiring. Bloody inspiring.

When I get like this, I look for the infinite/god/divine/jesus/whatever you call it
that is within everyone. It is often hard ot lift the veil of B.S. htat we have built up, and see people as they truly are. If can relaize that all of our prejusidces are bullshirt nad don't even matter, then you can see the beauty in people.[/weepy spiritual crap]

To be less soap boxy:

Don't worry about it. Go on a bit of a sabbatical if you can. Try to deprive yourself of human contact, and spend time with yourself. See if there are areas of your life that are defunct spiritually, mentally, physically, or otherwise.
