Yesd, it means that Apple will soon come out with a better one that will ignite the market and reduce this to irrelevance.

I have no use for these multimedia players... However, there's also a bigger version of the Zen Micro, called the Zen. It looks just like the Micro, but with a 20 GB hd. Same interface, though...

I'm sorry, is the iPod a video player?

Last I heard the regular iPod is a monochrome music player with spotty audio and bad battery life.

Got spare money?

I'm a little concerned about the sturdiness of a HD-equipped player - it would strike me that a solid-state approach would be superior and more reliable. So, is this true?

There are HD players with shock protection. The iAudio M3 has twelve minutes of shock protection.

My Zen has a 40 BG capacity. If I knew this one was coming out then I might have waited the extra few weeks before buying depending upon the price. Still, I'm happy with my Zen and I got tons of play time out of it on my recent road trip through Costa Rica. I also use it all the time here in the states.

I don't think I would have used the FM radio feature so its no big lose to me but it is one step closer to the ultimate convergence device I've been waiting for.

They are more reliable in that there is zero danger of damaging a hard drive and with fewer moving parts there are simply few things to break and as an added benifit they consume less electricity since there are no electric motors to power. Even HDD players with shock protection still recommend you don't jog with them due to potential damage to the hard drive. Solid state is the future but right now capacity isn't great (around 5GB). Once we get solid state up to around 20GB you will see them take over the market.

They generally get very good reviews. Otoh, they're not the cheapest MP3 players on the bloc
