Fascist Patch & Sound file question. Remove this text

For those of you who have played the fascist patch for Civ2, does anyone know how to have a sound effect for the Heavy Armor unit?

And in general, how does one go about modifying/adding a sound file anyhow? I've looked all through the game files and have no idea.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Suffering from ads?

Since I don't play with sounds, I really shouldn't answer this. So take this advice with a grain of salt.

Sound effects are stored as wav files in directories named "Sound". These are placed as subdirectories in each scenario directory. The sound effects for the vanilla game are stored in the "...\Civ2\Sound" directory (assuming that your main game location is "...\Civ2".

Theoretically, each unit can have its own sound. The @SOUNDS section of Rules.txt dictates what wav file is associated with a unit. There are a lot of restrictions to this, but unfortunately my primary source, Scenario League Tips on Sound is in the midst of revision and no tips are available.

Does anyone know of another location for these tips?

Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

I know for certain that not all units can have their own sound in MGE. (they can in ToT).

The 10 extra units (Exta Land, Sea and Air, and Test Unit 1-8) have their own sound, while the others have sounds depending on their location and/or role / domain IIRC.

Let me check some scens. to see which sound corresponds to the extra units...

[edit:]

They are called Custom1 - Custom3 and Extra1 - Extra8, So I'd guess you'd need to name the file accordingly, and put it in the sound folder.

IIRC, they need to be 8bit and 22KHz, and I don't remember if you could make them stereo (just in case stick to mono)
