Been reading this book and it's very good.
(for axi and marko http://www.protoporia.gr/protoporia...BN14XGDD1490B66 )
so you have the pelasgoi. maybe the first native inhabitans of greece in prehestoric times. but maybe they were indoeuropeans too who came earlier than the 4 groups of pro - greeks.
anyway so the acheans etc come from the east to the most beautiful place they could find in the edge of eurasia (and they were lucky because it wasl almost empty) and they found what was known as greece.
so they meet up with the pelasgoi and they say: chill out plenty enough for all of us to drink and eat, let's sing and be merry.
and so they were and got all mixed up.
then the Ionians came down etc
then the dorians came down. and they set all hell lose slaughtering and burning. and why? not because they were the baddest of the 4 pro-greek races but because they found the place full! so they had to make space.
and they created the two most warlike and ferocious kingdoms of greece, macedonia and sparta.
interesting how both macedonia and sparta were dorian nations/city state. and after all that time they still excelled in what they knew best which is warfare.
and why were the dorians so warlike? not because of "bad blood" or anything as such but simply because there was no place left for them so they had to make it.
very interesting

Well, I was taught that the theory of waves of Greek invasions is very likely a myth, though on the other hand Ionian dialect did survive in Attic, and Athenians were boasting that they are, unlike others, autochtones,
and the dialect of Arkadia, Cyprus and Pamphilia have something in common.
I'm pretty confused, I don't remember what the conclusion was. |
nope, the invasion of the pro-greek tribes is most certaintly not a myth.. there are artifacts, columns etc. it's a historic fact.
athenians couldnt boast that for the life of them... they were a mixture of the pro greek tribes and the autocthones (if indeed they were) pelasgoi and others.
i think you're most certaintly refering to the pelasgoi the "mysterious" people that preceeded the pro-greek tribes and were prehistoric meaning there are no written accounts about them. so any guess is good, but even then, they are not a myth, we just dont know much about them, as we do with the dorians, acheans, ionians etc

Everyone knows the first Greeks were Macedonians.

Very doubtful. The Dorians who were the forfathers of the Macedonians (and the Spartans and that's what I find amazing) were amongst the last pro-greek tribes to enter the scene. So one could say that the Macedonians were amongst the "latter Greeks". But that would also be without meaning as Greeks (including Macedonians) first came to national and ethnical coherence after the blending of all 4 tribes and the autocthonus people who inhabited what would later become Greece.

Also, the person who wrote that piece differentiates between Macedonians and Greeks at the very title.... That's mistake #1 right there at the beggining. I guess he never heard of what Alexander the Great thought....

That's not about Hellenic genes (for whom coincidently mold drenched girls seem to have a hellish thirst for) it's about how the topological and population-wise situations can shape the behavioral texture of a whole group, namely, in this case the Dorians and how that can become apparent in the group entities they help create, namely Sparta and Macedonia. That's what I find amazing. If the Ionians or the Acheans were late arrivals, like the Dorians were, their artistic preponderance might have taken a second place to their military aptitude.

If that was the case they'd be only Yugoslavia.
For some reason you seem to want to turn this thread on "genes" in true western modern racist fashion. The topic of it though is what I said earlier.

Historically some of the great warrior races were peoples who suffered a great defeat and exile. Examples would be the Apaches, the Zulu, the Aztecs, the Mogol horde and the Visigoths.
