We have a group at work that was banned from discussing politics because they would get carried away and not do their jobs and would start shouting at each other. It's pointless to talk to himn because he starts in with soundbytes the second any discussion starts.

Most of my close friends can discuss things normally though. We can disagree without taking things personally.

A couple of days ago somebody set fire to our minister of integrations car in the middle of the night resulting in half the house burning down. Only a smoke alarm prevented a disaster - she and husband plus two small children was able to get out in time.

The thing with Apolyton OT is that it's part of a games-site that automatically draws a lot of people who are more likely to be interested in politics, economics and the like. It's due the nature of the games that are covered here. And yet the games are mostly neutral in their leaning. Forums exclusively focused on politics can easily swing into one leaning because it crowds out the other, or because of the site owner's leaning. I think such crowding out it's unlikely to happen here as a lot of people have a reasons to stay here aside of the political debate. (being games) Markos and Dan have also always tended to be a-political.

This makes for a varied range of opinions and more tolerance, as each leaning often comes into contact with an opposite one.

Once upon a time, most Uni's had ROTC. They were run off campus during the 60's by the left. Now, if the military tres to recruit on campus, the left goes wild and all hell breaks lose, forcing the military back off campus.

So much for free speech, freedom of association and the like. The left will not allow the right to speak if it they can.

On the same View program I earlier referenced, when Condi Rice's name came up, Rosie made fun of her in a very racist way. I am sure she thought she was entitled to attack Condi in a racist manner for, as we all know, leftists are not racists by definition even if they are racists de facto.

Now, calling Kennedy a murderer is not an unfair accusation. Neither is calling Clinton a liar, a molester and a rapist, for they are all true.

I fail to see how this particular thread was an example supporting your argument. It seemed to me to be an overall pretty civil discussion of an issue.

And the other ID/Evolution one wasn't bad, either. They guy who started it made a bunch of assertions, and people challenged him on them in pretty intelligent and polite ways. I don't see much difference between that and a thread on the same subject here.
