Why would MS be deliberately trying to sabatoge the sales of their own product which they now had to sell? That doesn't make any sense whatsoever, so this assertion is baseless.

The name they gave it originally was showing that they were giving the people who hate media player precisely what they wanted--windows without media player. It was about as truthful as advertising gets. What's the problem?

The name implied people were getting less for their money -- and how many people would do that?

Ah. So products labeled "Reduced Fat" would be considered how by the EU...?

Just use Microsofts free anti-spyware software and you won't have any trouble.

"MS crap" being truthful advertising?

Frankly, I'd be annoyed if I bought "Windows XP Z" and then found out it was missing some piece of software that I thought it included.

What's all the fuss about? My computer has no problem running media players other than the pre-packaged Windows Media Player. WMP isn't even my default player.

I'm with Doc. It's not like it's that friggin difficult to install media player classic, or for that matter to install the quicktime alternative and real alternative codecs.

Since we are talking media players, I was wondering if anyone would know why sometimes some clips would play at what seems like twice the speed. Its like playinf a 45 on 78 and it makes people sound like chipmunks. I can't understand dialog and its disconcerting if viewing porn. This is using the packaged MS player. IT usually fixes itself if I reboot but not always and it doesn't happen with ALL clips-- Any ideas??

You're not accidentally hitting the "speed up the clip" button, are you? If not, then maybe wmp is using a screwy codec -- try installing defilerpak, see if that fixes the problem. If not, then wmp is being screwy -- try installing media player classic, see if that fixes the problem. If not, then maybe you're hallucinating.
