UN Amendment #4: Punishment Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

quote:
Option 1 (as proposed by CBR):
There are three possible punishment levels for breaking the rules. These are Yellow, Orange, and Red Offenses. All punishments for rule breaking will be determined by the game staff. The punishments listed with each rule/section are general guidelines, they are by no means a limit or restriction to the minimum/maximum punishment for a given offense.

The minimum punishment for an orange offense is forfeiture of one turn of play, which will be skipped by the game staff. Where rules explicitly state otherwise and for repeat offences the game staff will determine what a team will forfeit.

A team that commits a Red Offence will forfeit an enormous amount of turns, in upwards of 30 or 40 turns, they may even be ejected from the current game. A repeat offense is easily enough for they to be expelled from the entire IDG or ever playing on CDG again.

Team Punishments include:
  • Skipping Turns (no actions taken, just hitting enter)
  • Anarchy*
  • Forfeiture of unfairly acquired assets (cities, units, etc.)
  • Forfeiture of assets that can be traded/gifted (gold, cities, resources, techs, etc.)
  • Ejection from the current game
  • Suspension From the rest of the IDG (to include the championship game)
  • Expulsion from ever playing on or with CDG again

*Note: Starting a revolution in the first turn, and allowing play to resume as normal. Upon exiting Anarchy, the punished team must select their previous form of government. Religious civs will be required to remain in Anarchy for a select number of turns consistent with the duration of Anarchy for non-religious civs.

Personal Punishments include:
  • Suspension for # of turns as prescribed by the game staff
  • Ejection from the rest of the current game
  • Suspension from the rest of the IDG (to include the championship game)
  • Expulsion from ever playing on or with CDG again

Option 2:
Do not amend the rules in this way.

Vote now.

Assuming the red line is the only change, I don't see a problem with this...though I don't really see the need for it in the first place.

I think CBR just wanted another way in which teams could be punished. To be exact they wanted a way that not only does a team get punished, but another team, maybe the one they commited the offense against, would reap the opposite of the punishment.

For example, if a team was to be punishished with losign 500 gold, then the team that they possibly commited the offense against would be the one to get the 500 gold. Of course, all of this is up to the admins anyways.

So, I say yes. It just gives the admins more leeway to do what they feel is right in certain situations.

Another CBR way to gain a lesser punishment when they violate a rule. I voted no.

Is this something we want to give them leeway in, though?

IIRC CBR said they proposed this because the admins made them gift gold to CFC when their president was found to have infiltrated CFC. IMO, that's a little questionable. CFC may have been hurt, but is it fair to the other teams in the game to pump up CFC, or whoever has been targetted by cheating, as part of punishing the cheating/rulebreaking team?

I'm definitely leaning toward "no."

It's up to the admins to determine how much a team has been hurt by another team. If the admins decide to punish a team by taking away their gold, the rule doesn't say that "all" the gold taken must be given to the offended team; just that some or all of it "could" be given. It will be at the admins discreation.

Yes, I realize the amount will be at the admin's discretion. But should it be at the admin's discretion at all to move assets from one civ to another? Without this addition, the admins supposedly would not be able to do that, only to destroy one team's assets.

I say supposedly, though, because I believe we were playing without this addition last game with C3B had to gift gold to others for a rules violation, not just waste it by going 100% lux or something like that.
