	Change in "no ads" policy for Plus subscribers Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

I saw these ads appear in the threads yesterday. In the upper right corner of some posts, there are ads asking to buy Civ3 and other things.

Is this a new policy? I thought PLUS subscribers aren't supposed to see ads?

it's a change due to the often request of the amazon link as well as purchase links through which plus users can extend their subcription(a 40$ order of a single game from chips&bits will give you 2 extra months of plus).

plus users continue to not get the plus ads appearing on posts. they only see the amazon/etc links on about 25% of posts.

if it's too much bother we'll reconsider...

Well, it surely is pretty irritating, though much better than it was this morning, when each post had that crap. I guess it's tolerable for about 25% of posts, though surely useless .

I like to have the links, but it would be better to have them at the bottom of the page instead

Is it only possible to support 'Poly from Amazon.com? What about Amazon.co.uk?

A link at the bottom of the page (rather than in every post) would do the same and not be nearly as annoying.

If the amazon purchase for PLUS time deal was back I wouldn't mind the ad links as much. I agree that it could be located somewhere other than in each post.

I don't really notice the link unless I look closely...

Though I agree it's probably better if placed somewhere else, for example at the top with all these other links.

The reason I paid was to get rid of ads.

You can get rid of them now, or I can make a Greasemonkey script so everyone can get rid of them...

I find it annoying that I spend a lot of money on a site that then still tells me with most posts "Support Apolyton!"

I agree. While I have never opposed a modest link at the bottom of the page, this measure is ridiculous.

I assume that PLUS subscriptions make more money than referral-links. Then why are you bothering the people who pay money with these links as well? People subscribe to PLUS because they are told that the entire site will be ad-free. But now they're being confronted with ads in 25% of the posts. Why implement a third-rate income generator to people who are first-rate income generators?

Think lightly of it if you will, but you're now lying to your members.

Even though I noticed the links immediately, I agree that they're not super annoying (since it's only text). However, it's more a matter principle: the PLUS subscription is supposed to guarantee an ad-free site.
