Battery? Come on. It was a small squirt of water. You know, the stuff of life? Was he scarred by this water? Did it somehow damage his clothing, despite it being just water?
Shows "make money" in this manner all the time. Punk'd, TV's Bloopers and Practical Jokes, Candid Camera...
Sure, it wasn't particularly funny (that's Brit humor for you!), but hyperbolizing it into battery is ludicrous. The guy was a jerk, yes, but suing him over it just makes Cruise look like a grumpy spoilsport.
Me, I would have just shrugged it off with a chuckle and moved on. It's far more endearing to the public to be seen as a good sport about such things, especially since no real harm was done.
