... well?

I guess "Law & Order" is closest, but I watched an episode lately and I was shocked by the amount of leading questions asked by the Prosecution to their own witnesses.

Also I believe that one episode involved a case where someone blurted out something before Miranda rights were read (or he was deaf and couldn't hear them) and they had to get around it.... even though the law says Miranda doesn't apply to a spontaneous statement.

Any legal drama on TV that gets all the particulars right? I guess that's one of the problems with law school, you see errors in every show on the tube .

Boston Legal, which took over the spot previoulsy occupied by The Practice, is really good.
William Shatner is insane.
I don't know how "accurate" you want, since it would be hard to fictionalize things people do.

The same is true with any techie/computer tv show/movie.

Rules are always bent for entertainment value.

I suggest you learn law from another resource than TV shows.

I don't watch any legal shows. I gave up on them long ago.

L.A. Law was good while it was still on. Okay, the cases got to court blazingly fast and everyone was having lots of sex -- so that part wasn't accurate. And closing statements were brief, to the point and persuasive, so that part to was off. But other than that, it was prettty good.

What was that Glenn Close movie? Jagged Edge? I think that was it. It's nice that she questioned the witnesses from across the courtroom instead of nose-to-nose. While the nose-to-nose method makes for a great "two shot" for the camera, the jury can't hear what's going on, so no one in real life does it.

no

besides, all the fun action is on the defense, not the prosecution, and civilians don't much like to see the "bad" guy get away. Not good for tv.

Whoops. Don't forget the old Perry Mason show. Luckily for Perry, the LAPD was never able to arrest the real murderer once in all the years that show ran.

Ah the Shield. I've heard its a pretty good show. Its a rare occassion for me to venture out to the wilderness of FX.

And somehow I had forgotton of Perry Mason...

Late caveat (let's move those goal posts) big 4 tv program.

It wasn't cancelled. Rather, the lame-ass show "Grey's Anatomy" took its spot, pushing the remaining episodes until next season of 26 episodes.

Suffering from ads?

The most realistic one I have seen is a canadian one called "This is Wonderland". It is set in the Toronto provincial courthouse and follows 3-4 defense lawyers in what they do. The crimes are not glamorous, he lawyers are not all brilliant and the judges often ignore the strict rules of evidence if they are in a particularly crotchety mood.

The dockets are crowded, most of the clients are somewhat unlikable and spinning a deal to keep a wife-beater out of jail serves as a victory. also the main character is a young wet behind the ears lawyer who gets tossed a dozen cases on her first day when she still doesn't have a clue and she makes mistakes as she goes along.

No big names and not a high budget show butI found most of it to be pretty real . . . particularly the bits where judges ignore troublesome things like proper procedure

This is Wonderland
Second Season Premieres
Tuesday January 25, 2005 at 9:00 p.m.

The second season of THIS IS WONDERLAND continues to explore the highly charged world of the lower criminal courts, promising a painfully funny, gut-wrenching portrait of the complex tales of human drama which unfold daily in the seething crucible of Canada's busiest courthouse. As in season one, the lawyers, judges, criminals and court workers portrayed on the show need all of their emotions-their humour, compassion, anger and even disbelief-to make sense of the intense subject matter at play within the walls of Toronto's Old City Hall.

Season two finds Alice (Cara Pifko), James (Michael Healey), Elliot (Michael Riley) and Nancy (Siu Ta)-the principals of the show's rich ensemble cast of characters-coming together to start their own firm. Former articling student Nancy has now passed her bar admissions exams and is a practicing lawyer. Additional returning cast members include Michael Murphy as Judge Fraser, Tom Rooney as Crown David Kaye, Kathryn Winslow as Crown Pamela Menon, Eric Peterson as Judge Malone and Yanna McIntosh as Duty Counsel Zona Robinson.

New cast regulars this season include Jayne Eastwood (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), an original member of Toronto's Second City comedy troupe, who joins the cast as Rondelle "Ronnie" Sacks, Elliot's mother and the firm's receptionist. Also joining the cast is Angela Vint (Traders) as Crown Tamara Rogan.

He actually got a Golden Globe. That's right, Captian...James T Kirk got a...Golden Globe award FOR...Acting.

(Although, on "The Practice", he guest-starred as the role he would later become a regular with on "Boston Legal" and won an Emmy for it.)

The Wire (on HBO) is pretty realistic, but it's a cop drama, so the realism is in terms of things like prerequisites for wiretaps, and legality of evidence. Not what you're looking for.
