Tom Cruise well and truly embarassed himself on public television. I watched the show with my mom, and both our mouth's were agape at the site of him acting out arrogance so obscene that we looked at eachother - shocked.
He was also tremendously patronizing. Considering the **** Tom was dishing out, Matt Lauer was a figure of grace and goodwill. If I had been Lauer, I would have laughed at him. |
I wonder how Steven Spielberg puts up with him? They've done a couple of movies together recently. Spielberg seems to me to be a fairly laid back guy, I can't quite picture him putting up with this sort of arrogance. In particular there's a rumor that Cruise turned down an actress seeking a role on Mission Impossible 3 simply becasue she refused to become a scientologist.

First, I've heard his PR guy is also a Scientologist, so that could explain a lot right there.
Second, "most bankable?" I doubt that. He hasn't had a really big hit in a while, so I think he's seen his star fading and is clawing at trying to get it back. And I'd say Hanks is much more consistently bankable star. |
Yep, Hanks, Willis, Crowe, Foxx, Washington are all probably more "bankable". There may be others.

I know people and more than one who have been not helped but saved by behavioral psychotherapy/ drugs for limited time and anyone saying it doesn't help will provide me with a very good laughter

I have never seen a more ludicrous statement. So actors aren't supposed to express their opinions like doctors, lawyers, social workers, or homeless people?
Actors have just as much right to say what they think as anyone else. The only difference is that if a famous actor does it, people listen (partially because the media announces whatever someone with remote fame says.)
If, God willing, I ever become famous, you can bet your ass I'm going to use my fame to influence people, and maybe try to get things accomplished that I and like-minded people want to see. |
Remember a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Actors are not experts of neurology or psychology or whatever field that the issue du jour is in, they are just that, actors, that is their profession. They should keep quiet unless they know what the hell they are on about (and so many of them seem to be as thick as pig excreta it would be all the better).
quote: Oh, and don't forget that Ronald Reagan, Charlton Heston, and Arnold Schwartzenegger were all actors, for those conservatives out there who think "liberal Hollywood" should stay out of politics. |
So idiots span the political spectrum? Well as for those names, I'd rather forget them if it's all the same

seems quite a few of us have had therapy or been on medication.. and most of us say it was a good thing.
and i lost what little respect i had for TC after that interview. which i saw btw and he came off as a fanatical moron. he's maybe a fine actor.. but he needs to go back to being more reserved. which he was a few years ago.
Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt. -- Mark Twain.
i was on paxil around the time my husband died.
after that they increased it for a while..
that next summer i gradually tapered off it.
and have not been on medication in a year.
after 2 years of therapy .. im now just going twice a month instead of every week.
diagnosed with major depression and PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder)
she gave me the major depression because she wasn't sure in the beginning if it was long term or just event related due to the PTSD. she dealt with the PTSD
with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing treatments). which has been very effective.
if you have a therapist that just sits there and listens
or falls asleep.. then find another one. thats not good therapy.

I actually was boycotting Cruise and Travolta until Cruise hooked up with Spielberg. I figured that if Spielberg could stand him he must not be so bad. Looks like I was premature. I think I'll still go see War of the Worlds anyway.

I dunno about that. The guys I mentioned earlier all have better "scoring" records.
There's a website somewhere that lists the earnings of films in which actors and actresses have had a major role in.

OK, Tom Cruise is 4th, behind Tom Hanks, Harrison Ford and Eddie Murphy.
