Too many civs have alpha, so we shouldn't bother researching it. I suggest we start one of the following techs: warrior code, wheel, iron working.

Warrior code is probably best since it will allow us to exert an early punishment on whoever we choose. Best if we could find that maya freaks to kylle them early as they won't have the money to build those ultra expensive javelin throwers while we'll have scores of enkidu/archers.

Still, it is equally likley that maya will start warrior code, so if we're shooting for a sci leader (you bet we are! ) then it's wheel or iron we want to start with.

We are the only scientific civ in the game, so it would probably make sense to research IW right off the bat...

We would need a high commerce city to get it in a timely fashion, though. But we would be the first civ to IW, and knowing where the iron is could make or break the game for us.

I disagree with the statement that iron could have a profound influence on our civ. We have no way of utilising iron early on, so we should be better off with an army of enkidus and archers.

The knowledge of iron on the map is the important point for IW, not the swordsman.
WC: Maya will research that first
Wheel: Same for the Iro.

If we research one of this two techs, we need luck that no one of them is one of our neighbor.

Indeed, iron working looks like our best choice, followed by warrior code and wheel.

We would not need iron this early, but it won't hurt us to know where iron is either.
