When we get the first save, we want to play our save as fast as possible. I know that we won't exactly know when we will get the first save, we might be last in line and each of the other teams might take their Maximum 24 hours for each of their first turns. This might present a problem, with some of our US members, as it will be Holiday weekend (3 day) and they might not be available to provide their Input.
So, what are your Opinions on things like Starting Locations, Poping Huts with workers (if close to us - but taking time from very early worker actions), Scouting with workers for better Starting Locations, How far do we want to move, if we don't like our initial start, etc, etc, etc.
What are your views on these and more, for different things that we might see when we DO actually get our first save? Please give some scenarios and Options for each of them. Maybe even some things from games that you have played (and how you would have started them differently).

If we have the Admins do a -1 turn (or zero turn, whatever) for the sole purposes of setting the Passwords, that would be good to have. They can just mod the game to start at 4050BC, set passwords, take screenshots and send them to the various teams.
Although, the first team wan't need that, as they should be getting the first save right after they do that as it is. But it will allow the other teams to make some form of desision before they get their turn.
But anyways, this thread is to discuss esoteric strategies, with different kind of starts. It's not just about what we can see and maybe see, but what we WANT to see and what we will settle for.
It's about, what our first build(s) might be, what we want to think about researching, what if any Huts that we might want to pop or maybe wait on (for possible culture expansion).
A lot of things. But mainly, to get us into the mode of starting our play in about 1 weeks time.

First builds - warrior, warrior, currach/warrior, warrior, settler, grainary, worker
City Locaion, next to the water, preferably an ocean, with a river next to us, and ivory under us. You asked.....
First research, pottery, or if we have it already, the wheel

Granary before a settler, unless we have something like a cow or wheat nearby

Don't build granary, don't research pottery.
First builds - warrior, warrior, currach/warrior, warrior, settler, barracks, warrior, settler, archer, archer.

That would leave three cities, and only one worker. IMO, I don't think that's a very good starting move.

As we will be Agri, we will already have Pottery researched. I like to put out scouting Units, but I like to get an idea of my local terrain at first, to get a very good idea as to where I'll be placing cities.
And as for Granaries, they are your friend, but not too soon, either. Building them also gives your city a chance t get a better Pop Base with which to crank out those Settlers. Ideally, you want to get 4 turn settlers, as you can reallistically have 2 turn Growth with Granaries and you just bounce back and forth between pop levels. But then, realistically, you have to put some other builds in between the Settlers as your Growth rate might not be as much as you want it to be, so you need to put other builds in to allow your pop to recover between the settlers.
And very early Barracks can be a waste (Unless your Mil Trait), but then, that should atleast one of the first builds from our second city.
But 3 EW's are good to start out with. Afterwards, we will have to wait to see what we can find when we get there.

exploring at start (mostly some warrior's) is the most valuable way.
(goody huts/fast contact = with all the advantages and option it give/knowing the others land and they don't know where you are and so on...)
And if possible don't use UU for explore or the first contact maybe trigger your GA :/.

goody hut @starting location:
own city build
others have build there city's too
no combat unit ownd
=> worker take the goody hut, that's the moment where you got the highest chance to find a settler.

It is to dependant now to make an informed decision as to the setter or granary first.
A lot will depend on just how fast our first city is growing, and just what the city sites around it are like.
If the starting location is fertile, but has low production, then go direct for the settler.
If the starting location has high production, but low food, then go granary.
Also, what is our happiness like? If we delay and make the city grow to size 5 to produce a granary, but this causes unhappiness, is it worth waiting?
All these are questions that we need to see the save to make an accurate decision on. And then, not only do we need the save, but we need to explore the area around the first city as well and find our 2nd and 3rd city sites to make a rational decision as to how to proceed with rex.
My typical example above is just that, typical. It is what I would normally plan on doing, but it has to be modified and adapted to fit the specific circumstances of our situation. And until we see the save and know what our situation is, let’s not worry to much about it.
