Updates Thread Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

This is where I'll post all happenings for the game that are worth knowing.

Last turn was 550 AD:

Econ buildup continues, we have close to 60 Workers now. Unfortunately we're last among the 'major' powers in GNP, MFG and Prod again, but that's not surprising given how much smaller our population is than any other team, even Python.

We have a couple Settlers going out as well... there's only about 2 or 3 more sites and then our land will be completely filled up. I've had Funky Town doing Settlers for a bit now because it has an irrigated cow and is one of the few locations that has food. I'll be switching it over to an Aquaduct soon so we can start taking more advantage of the Colossus there again.

I forget how many turns away from Astronomy we are. It's around 10 or so I think. We are way ahead of everyone else technologically, despite being last in GNP. They must be spending gold on other things like rushes and upgrades. I wonder how long it'll be before someone else gets Chemistry.

I upgraded about 17 Knights this turn. It cut our treasury by about 60% and we're still weak to all of the major powers, but hopefully that'll change as more and more get upgraded. As I mentioned a while back we probably want a force of 50-60 Knights/Cav before it's over.

I was wrong on the timing of our GA - we'll finish Copernicus/Newton in 18 more turns, which is when our GA will begin. I'll try to get things prepared so that we can take maximum advantage of that (larger cities, more Workers out, etc.).

That's it for now.

Are you not worried about what Tab and MAST will do with their respective armies after the LL's go down for the count? Do we have any agreements with either of them to give us any amount of comfortablility? 17 Knights is cool, but how many more Horsemen do we have available for upgrade? How far away from either Tab or MAST are we from getting to "average" versus them?

Yes, it will certainly be time for some diplo work before too long. I've entertained the thought of a long-term alliance with Tabemono. Being the clear #1 power now they could be a very valuable ally, and having so much land I doubt they would cast their eye too much on us unless they had a good reason to. I'm not sure yet though - we're not a huge threat to anyone yet so I don't think we'd be #1 on anyone's chopping block at this point. I'm not deluded enough to believe that will remain the case in the future, however.

Our military appears to be a fair bit behind everyone else - they've all been building up for better part of the last 40 or 50 turns, whereas we've been doing almost nothing. We have about 5 more Horsemen remaining, but many more are being built. I'll probably upgrade them in groups of 10 every 5-7 turns or so. I hope to get us up to average with the best at some point... we'll see though.

Well, it will be either them(2) against us(1) or we join one of the two and make it the other way. I doubt it would be a one on one situation or an all out war with no allies.

So, let's discuss who would make a better partner. On the surafce, it seems tab would be it. But, wouldn't they be pretty powerfull by the time it was over? MAST seems to me more our size and strength. Let's see if we can't get MAST locked into some sort of temp alliance. A MPP if they'll go for it. With the premise being that either of our teams need protection from big bad Tab!

I think we're getting to the point where all the teams are getting close to being basically the same strength (those that have a similar amount of territory that is... Python is somewhat small compared to everyone else, though they're still ahead of us economically, but that may be due to a GA).

At this point I fear Tabemono more than other teams for their current great strength and their Riders. My choice of them as a better ally is based more about preventing them from directing their power towards us - I think we could handle MAST in a battle if it came to it, but Tabemono may be more troublesome. Our north is harder to defend than our border with MAST. Our relative weakness makes more sense to ally with the stronger power, as they will strengthen us as well as eliminating a powerful rival (for now). Anyways, still up for debate... maybe we should start a poll.

As far as us launching our own attacks... at this point our military is still a fair bit behind the other teams even after ~18 or so Knight upgrades.

No poll is needed. Just keep the line of communcaiton with Tab open and if you sense them closing off a bit then we need to be worried.

Would it be prudent to seek them now as a potential ally against MAST?

We have SOME breathing room as Tabemono and MAST are about to make their final push vs. LL in the next few turns. I'll continue weighing the options a bit longer before I decide who to pick. I'll probably ask for tech deals with both of them and then decide whom to try to form a more 'permanent' alliance with.

Alas... of military, economic and diplomatic affairs, my weakest suit is the latter.

There's a shot... we're a few techs away from it right now and might have to rely on someone who might attack us to get it (since we're working on the upper half of the Medieval Age). I'll continue building Knights though and see if I can find a way to get Mil. Trad. easily...

We're about 15 turns away from completing Copernicus' Observatory and starting our GA. Two cities grew to size 8 this turn, four cities grow to size 7 next turn and others are growing as well.

I hope to add some Workers to cities in time for our GA to make sure we get maximum output from it. We have almost 70 now and are producing about 5 every two turns. By the time our GA begins we should have 100 or so total.

Received a message from ZargonX of Tabemono about a long-term alliance and tech trading deals. I will tell him that we will discuss the issue.

I think that it's a good idea - should war come, it'll be a lot easier for us to advance on MAST than it would be to get to Tabemono.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

Just played 610 AD.

We are now 10 turns away from our Golden Age if everything goes as planned. Economic preparations are going nicely - we have over 70 Workers now and our GNP is in 3rd place at 542. At 90% sci we're still 3rd in GNP at 574, so we have a bit of a ways to go before catching up with #1 and 2 (I believe these are Tabemono and Cake or Death).

I did a look-around when it came to techs and the only team near us is Python, who has Astronomy like us but not Banking. We are currently 14 turns away from Navigation but could get it in as few as 4 if necessary while burning away some gold. This is dangerous as Python may have a possible wonder prebuild in their capital (or elsewhere, of course) and if they grab Copernicus in the next 9 turns that'll greatly delay our GA.

In order to beat Python to possible Education and Astronomy trades I offered Education to MAST and Tabemono and Astronomy to CoD. We still have a monopoly on Banking and should be able to pick up Nav soon.

Our MFG is growing slowly as more cities transfer from growth mode to production mode. I added one Worker to a city to get it up to 10 SPT and get us 3-turn Horsemen. Speaking of which, we now have 15 lying around and I'll upgrade most of these in the next 5 turns or so. Hopefully this along with our current 21 Knights will bring us up to average with everyone (we're still weak to MAST, Tabemono and CoD).

I'm going to send a mail back to Zargon telling him that we agree to their official alliance proposal unless anyone objects to that. We'll see where that path takes us.

I just checked and Copernicus starts a GA for Expansionist Civ's. I too thought it was a Scientific Wonder when you first proposed this.

We either have to back track to the Great Lighthouse (Commercial) or get two more techs quickly and build Newton's University (Scientific) in order to attain our GA. We are now 8 turns from having 400 shields.

Last turn I switched us from our project of Navigation to full speed towards Magnetism and Newton's University. 4 turns for Physics and 4 turns for Magnetism should work out nicely. It'll cost us, oh, 800 or so gold but we can build back up later.

Plus, Python just switched to Copernicus in their capital this past turn. My guess is that it'll be built next turn anyways.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Okay, it's not Magnetism, it's Theory of Gravity. Makes no difference, they're both era-required techs. Burning through 180 GPT to get things done in 7 turns so we should definitely be the first to that wonder.

Now for other stuff:

Python finished Copernicus as expected this turn.

Python also offered Wines, but we don't need them this turn so I sent a message with the save asking them to suggest a deal for them (we have horses, iron and GPT to trade for wines) and we can get something together in 10 turns or so (when our GA begins and when those luxuries will help our Worker-boosted cities).

I'm going to send a message to Tabemono requesting that they build another city to get a source of Dyes for us. With those 2 luxuries hooked up for us we'll be in very good shape happiness-wise (for the first time in a while). Additionally, I want to build one more city up north on the border of Tabemono, which would steal a couple of their tiles. I'm also going to ask them if it's alright to build the city there, so we don't annoy them by just doing it without discussing the issue with them.

That's it for now.
