	Editing other Members Posts Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Just to let the newer people know, the Private Forums (ALL Private Forums, mind you) have a little "feature" that allows you to edit someone else's post.

This is good and bad.

The Good
Good in the fact that you can correct a post. This is especially good when dealing with turntreads and standard MAIN game threads. Like I (or for that matter, anyone else) could Edit in a link to a vital thread, into Paddy's M0M thread. This way, he doesn't have to do that bit of work, I do it, saving him the time.

It's also good, when dealing with Turn threads. Anyone could post a Basic turntread (and I'll provide a 'template' to post them from soon) and the MoI/MoW/FAM/Consuls can edit the thread so that their Orders are posted. In the case of MoI stuff, being able to work a few turns ahead can be a life saver, especially if the MoI goes missing (read RL things) for a time. It can also allow their Deputy/Alternate to do that part of the work.

The Bad
This "feature" can cause a problem, if you aren't careful. If, say I go to add a link in a post in Paddy's MoM thread, BUT, Paddy is also editing that same post, This will happen:

#1) Paddy posts his edit first, he looks over it and it looks good and he goes onto other things. I then post my edit, which had the Original UnEDITED post plus what I had just added my stuff. It overwrites what Paddy had just edited. So, everything that he had just done, in that one post, was lost!!

#2) I post before Paddy, read #1 above, but just switch the people posting around.

So, In the PTWISDG, we had separate posts for Consuls/MoI/MoW/FAM to edit. That will be provided in the 'template' that I'll be posting soon. I think that we should continue to adopt the same convention, so that we don't have a bad situation. Because, if not, it can get really Ugly....

I can remember some instances from the past where I was sooo mad at this "feature" that I quit posting for a while becuase of it.

lol. Yep, it doesn't often happen, but it can.

What we did is make people type in what they want to add in something like word, then cut and paste it into the original. No changing of the original except to add. The MOI had his section, the MoW had hers. Worked real well as I remember. Only had one time that it didn;t work out right in the last game.

yeah, but a useful one. It make setting up Order threads very simple, with everything te turnplayer (Consul) needed in the first few posts. It also allowed Info threads to be updated by anyone, especially if the person who had started it was no longer around (or gone for a short time).

A bug (read 'feature') that made our life much easier.
