Whenever i read articles like this, i always think of the plot behind the Terminator movies
Is this kind of research ever likely to lead to that scenario(ie big clever thinking computer systems)?

The tricky bit is for a comp to become 'self aware' as SkyNet did in the flicks. Otherwise, if a comp was given too much control, and Dr Evil were to hack that computer...

Why would a computer try to eradicate us just because it became self-aware? Are judgement and self-awareness the same, or does self-awareness require judgement? I don't think so. How is this super-brain going to acquire its priority list of values?
