Watch out for scientific arguments in social studies. Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

I went to a support group for divorcees last night. It was very disappointing. Some theropist was telling us that it's all men's fault for divorce, and that women are perfectly suited for marriage. What a bunch of BS?! He was telling us all these facts about men's brains though to make us believe this ****. I wasn't going for it though. I don't trust people who use scientific arguments to try to get people to believe something that doesn't make sense in the first place. If you want me to believe something in social science make some sense for Christ's sake. Being scientific just raises my BS alarm.

Just like women saying women belong in the kitchen, or for that matter, poor voting for conservatives. People aren't always looking for their best interests when forming opinions.

Tired of ads?

I imagine he has a guilty conscience because he was a dick and he feels better about himself if he imagines it's all an inevitable consequence of his being male. Brainwashed sure but probably also a jerk.

Usually, people who believe that way are themselves the ultimate proof that they're wrong. Not always, mind you.

I've know cases where the fault was clearly the wife's, and others where it clearly was the husband's. It is more likely to be the later. There atre many cases however where both are at fault. Some people should have the license to use their gonads taken away. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it was possible to suppress people's reproductive functions until they displayed adequate maturity?

My wife works in the field professionally, Kid. You got propoganda, I know of no accepted theory with that kind of BS. Somebody is playing agneda-driven pseudo-science. To quote my wife's doctoral chair, "Show me the numbers" i.e. show some statistical significance. This guy is agenda driven and warping some factoids to fit whatever he believes (as in faith) versus knows (as in fact). Jettison the incompetent immediately, therapists like that do more harm than good.

ermm it is possible, but it sounds like you don't recognize it as unethical.

I'm not saying it isn't usually the man's fault, or if it isn't. But the problem isn't the way men think any more than it is the way women think. Men can get along with people just as well as women can if not better.

Actually I was thinking about doing something to people to keep the capability to reproduce dormant until turned on at some point in life. Ideally this something would not interfere with the growth and body changes of puberty. This is not possible yet, and I don't know if it ever will be.

Science Fiction has dealt with that (limiting the right to reproduce) in many variations, and the technology is actually there. While there are problems, with enough work it is highly likely they could be worked out. For men it would be implanted magnetic actuated (from the outside) valves in the vas deferens, the ducts that transport sperm from your scrotum. There were scarring problems, but with a focused program those could largely be beaten.

For women you could easily have implanted birth control, either Norplant that had technical problems (too many shoddy jobs implanting or removing it) that were not an issue per se with the technology, or this from consumer reports.

quote:
That’s not the case with the newest IUD, Mirena. “It’s highly effective, completely reversible, and makes periods lighter and less crampy,” says Mitchell Creinin, M.D., professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Pittsburgh. The reason is that Mirena releases a steady trickle of the hormone progestin, which over time thins the uterine lining so that it can’t support a pregnancy. It lasts for five years, but a woman can have it removed at any time and she doesn’t have to wait before trying to get pregnant.

The kicker is who decides when to turn it on, what are the criteria, etc. Do you want someone determining, for example, that if you believe in any corporal punishment, for example spanking, you are unfit. Or that if you are a loving same-sex couple you cannot have children - oops, we already do that to a certain degree. Whatever the case, it opens up a really big can of worms.
