I will be playing Civ III for quite awhile. I have to admit it is still new to me. I got it when Complete came out. This is also going to cause a fight, but I am not convinced that I want cIV.
I'll have to hear/read the reviews; But it's 3D without a true globe. The religion thing doesn't seem modeled correctly (I know I haven't play).
I played a lot of CivII. I wanted so much of what ended up in Civ III. I love III. The only reason that I didn't run out to buy Civ III the day it was released was - I'm cheap. That is my last reason for not running out to get cIV. I'll wait forthe gold or complete edition. Better yet the $10 copy.
I will be playing Civ III for quite some time.

Every once in a while, I get the urge to reinstall Civ2. I play half a game, or a full one if I'm ambitious, then I put it away for another few months. I'm getting there with Civ3 as well. If my computer can handle cIV reasonably well, I don't see myself going back to previous versions. Not very often, anyway.

Civ2 is kept alive for two reasons:
1) The vast number of scenarios and mods out there.
2) You don't need the CD to play it.
I install Civ2 on every machine I have and play it when I can't find my Civ3 CD. Yeah, I could get one of those CD-anywhere things but that'd just be another thing to install and fuss with.
Civ3's obsessive need for its CD will be its death for me when Civ4 comes out.

I use CD images for all my games. It's really not bad once you know what you're doing. It's just that first step that's a pain

No, it has the attack everybody feature. I've only played very few games where everybody is not at war with at least 75% of all enemies, at some point in the game |
AIs fight, that is what they do. But it is not always a large part of the game, and can be reduced further by increasing the appearance ratio of resources (AI is programmed to aggressively pick up luxuries and resources it can not trade for). Still, the game does lack the diplomatic option "Sign peace with X, or we provide you what a real war looks like."

It might be possible yes, but I have yet to see this happen |
I know it is possible, for I have done it. Making some AI my perfect ally after cutting half of it for myself early in the game is quite doable. But it does take many turns of being nice, and at peace. Also, it means no breaking any deals, ever, as that tends to ruin your reputation for good.
