You are mixing the guides up I think. He published a SMAC guide (though I still have the original e-version somewhere) and collated material into threads for Civ3. I don't think these were published and sold.

LOL! The trouble is bank usually have very strong alliances with many Civ. Their words are (almost) backed by nuclear wapons.

A nice example of WELL-DONE manual is Supreme Ruler 2010's manual. Just to give you an idea, this is the FIRST MANUAL EVER which I use. I did read a few manual just for fun, but there really is some strategy and general help in SR2010's manual.

For example, under a title called "artillery", you don't just find "Stuff to shoot bullets from afar" but also how it is used historically, what to do with it and some gheneral tip

If the Civ2 manual also recommended you to go for howitzers, then it revealed the whole strategy in the game!
