East Anglian Ambulance service national "In case of emergency" campaign Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

An e-mail is doing the rounds to promote this, which I've just received.

"This was forwarded to me:
I think it's a really good idea, especially given last Thursday's events.
East Anglian Ambulance Service have launched a national "In case of Emergency (ICE)" campaign with the support of Falklands war hero Simon Weston and in association with Vodafone's annual life savers award.

The idea is that you store the word "ICE" in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency".

In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them.

It's so simple - everyone can do it. Please do. Please will you also forward this to everybody in your address book, it won't take too many forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life.

I would suggest that you copy and paste this into a new message before sending to everyone, so that it doesn't get those annoying forward arows.

Be safe everyone"

This is legit, and here's the link to the full story.

I though it was a good idea as well, but read a blog with this comment and I'm not so sure:

quote:

Jesus, if you want emergency folks to know this information, tape a note to the back of your phone with the info. And take the opportunity to protect your own phone in case the battery is dead, etc too.

if found, call [your own phone number]
In case of emergency, call [emergency #]

1) Print it on paper, or handwrite it
2) put clear tape over it and attach to the phone.

Don’t expect some random hospital worker to mess with your phone’s crappy user interface.

Or put a stupid business card-sized paper in the ‘front’ of your wallet for easy access. And you don’t even need a f-ing phone for that.

Well, I'm assuming that East Anglian NHS Trust at least will be training their staff in the phone interface department.

But then, under what word would I store the number of my drug dealer?
