so i guess we should stick with the EU choice instead of the worthless ISO (who are these guys anyway? ) and use EL

Abbreviations were adopted in order to save effort and room in writing and typing. But in a numerical world when most informations are edited without typing, the need of abbreviations is considerably reduced, and its use should be limited to sentences where no ambiguity could result from it.

No. I am not from goddamn Illinois.

Neither are you in Europe, so the abbreviation nomenclature thereof needn't concern you.

In GB,UK (not sure about NI,UK), we can use the car region codes if we need two letters rather than county abbreviations.

hah, you think youve got us scared. Forget the 2 letter State abbreviations (which originally most Americans disliked, but which are used on the net for the same reasons all the other insane abbreviations are) we'll go to counties, and use abbreviations for them.

Btw, I´m from DD, Sachs. in D. And you?

I was just saying you should go by some official standard rather than making them up on the spot...

And I was also letting you know that in the US and Canada the abbrevs. are determined by the postal serice, not randomly.

I think we should have them all in English, mostly because most people here speak english, even if its not their native language....the thing is, it would be nice for someone that doesn't know the abreviations to be able to guess them...accurately...

For example, we all know what the USSR is, but few probably know what the CCCP is...using native tongue justs confuses people...

A suggestion...

UK = England/United Kingdom
FR = France
SP = Spain
GE = Germany
SW = Switzerland
PT = Portugal
GR = Greece
IT = Italy
NW = Norway
SE = Sweden
AU = Austria
FI = Finland
RU = Russia
UR = Ukraine
IR = Ireland
IC = Iceland
PO = Poland
CZ = Czech Republic
CR = Crotia
BR = Brussels
NE = Netherlands/Holland
RO = Romania
BU = Bulgaria
RO = Romania
LV = Latvia
ES = Estonia
BE = Belarus
HU = Hungary
TK = Turkey (not exactly European, but close)
LU = Lithuania
SV = Slovakia
YG = Yugoslavia

I probably forgot some, can't think of any more off the top of my head...

Of course, this isn't perfect, its only a suggestion...but still I think a similiar system would work...

look, we didnt make em up. Theyre official postal codes. One of which is French, BTW - or do you really think PQ stands for something in English?

We used to have Calif, Ariz, Fla, and Mich. It was the postal system that changed these to CA, AZ, FL, and MI. And, btw, Ont to ON.
