Comics as a Kid Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

When I was a kid, I used to read a whole bunch of comics, from Richie Rich to Spiderman, to Family Circus and the Far Side...and yes, even Bloom County.

But I have to say that my most favorite is "Calvin and Hobbes". Man, I think that comic influenced me so much. I learned so much pranks and stuff from that comic that it's crazy. But in a weird way, I feel it also made me think more. When Calvin and Hobbes talked about life, death, philosophy, and all those deep things...I think I've kept that with me.

Anyway, I just bought the "Essential Calvin and Hobbes" and call me a loser, but I'm cracking up hard as I re-read all these comics. Damn, good times. Good times. Has any old comic ever really influenced you like this?

A sample of Calvin and Hobbes...

Dude, which one was the one where C and H go on a trek with peanut butter sandwiches and start ragging on each other? In my move to my current house, I had to get rid of my old comic books and can't remember which one it was...

That probably describes about a quarter of all C&H strips...

Put an end to popups!

Far Side got old quick. C & H does indeed still rule. As did/does Bloom County.

I have a few of both.

Holy crap dude, you are a saint.

C&H was one of the most influential comic books I've had. CandH, Bloom County, and Far Side. Maybe that's why a lot of people I meet think I'm either a rascal, eccentric, or downright weird.

Wasn't Bloom County, Opus, and Outland basically the same characters? In the Sunday paper as a kid, I remember them all being the same characters, but having different names.

Suffering from ads?

More Calvin and Hobbes pranks.

Unfortunately, I've done stuff like this in elementary school.

Kind of...Outland started out being different than Bloom County, but eventually turned into the same thing later. The main difference is that Outland didn't have any daily strips. And like I said, I haven't seen Opus.

The Phantom and Mad Magazine were the only comics I read as a child. The mainstream super hero comics were full of so many ads, I didn't see it as value for money.

most of those were on our rival newspaper, not our main one. So I never read them.

I liked Garfield, peanuts, family circus, and ziggy. I usually read Hagar, hi and lois, and drabble as well.

Yeah Calvin & Hobbes is quality - got all the books and still love to re-read them often. I often point them out to others and get a good reception in the most case.

Such a shame that he quit completely, I had hoped Bill Watterson would take another ( longer ) sabbatical and write some new material...
