Probably not important, but thought some of you might be interested.

"Iran press reports Kurdish riots
By Frances Harrison
BBC News, Tehran

The Iranian media has reported more disturbances in Kurdish areas of the country after several days of riots.
Two people were wounded on Monday when "hooligans" caused disorder in the town of Oshnavieh, the hardline newspaper Jumhuri Islami said.

But Kurdish journalists report that three people were killed on Monday and seven died in previous days.

Kurds are saying the unrest is a sign of frustration over the denial of minority rights in Iran.

Chief among these is frustration over the denial of the right to be educated in the Kurdish language.

The Iranian government has said the unrest over the last two weeks is not political at all, but it appears that ethnic resentment is simmering - partly because Kurds see the situation improving next door in Iraq since a Kurd became president there.

The trouble began in Iran two weeks ago when a Kurdish man in the town of Mahabad was shot by police then tied to a car and dragged all the way to the police station, where he was allegedly tortured until he died.

He was accused of calling for autonomy for the whole of Kurdistan and celebrating the appointment in Iraq of Kurdish leader Jalal Talabani as president.

When the man's dead body was returned to his family they photographed it and put the pictures on the internet to show he had been tortured.

His funeral sparked unrest and clashes with the police for the next week, which then spread to other Kurdish towns. "

Probably not much. As long as the mass of Farsi speakers in central Iran remains quiet, they can withstand protests by ethnic minorities (Kurds, Arabs in Khuzistan back in April, Baluchis in the southwest a couple of years ago) and students probably indefinitely.

Are the Iranian Kurds?? Of course the Turkish Kurds are(or at least their best known organizations), and Iraqi Kurds leaders seem to be mainly third wayish, but with definite socialist roots. I didnt know about the Iranian Kurds though.

BBC:

Iran clamps down on Arab protests

Iranian police have arrested at least 12 people in connection with fresh protests in Khuzestan province.
Iranian media said the unrest was sparked when people took to the streets after being tricked by local conmen.

Five people were killed in riots last April over reports that Tehran wanted to change the ethnic balance of the area, home to about 2m ethnic Arabs.

The authorities are sensitive to reports of unrest in Khuzestan, which contains most of Iran's oilfields.

Reports in the Iranian press quoting local officials said rioting was provoked by thieves who took advance payments and then failed to deliver any goods.

However, a UK-based Arab separatist leader is quoted by Reuters saying that protests are building up to mark the 100th day after the April protests.

Mahmoud Ahmad al-Ahwazi, from the Ahvaz Arab People's Democratic-Popular Front, told Reuters that four people had been shot dead by police, but it is not possible to verify the claim.

Ethnic Arabs are thought to represent about 3% of Iran's population, but make up a majority in Khuzestan.

In a separate development, three Iranian police have died in an ambush by Kurdish insurgents near the northern border with Turkey, officials said.

Officials blamed the Turkish Kurdish rebels of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) for the violence, but did not give further details.

Keep your pants up there Marx!
If that was the case they'd be a lot more closer to freedom. Fact is they are very split between themselves with different fractions battling sometimes between themselves.
