Bill Frist has Alzheimer's Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Boston Globe Article

No, no he doesn't, but he decided to support government money for stem cell research, and he's the parliamentary leader of the Republican majority....

Does this mean that we'll have federal cash flowing to stem cell research anytime soon?

If you can kill an embyro, you can kill a developing baby, or someone in a coma. Incidentally, an institute in Virginia is already harvesting embryos. Slip-slope culture of death indeed.

Adult-tissue therapy is a sensible alternative.

Members of the liberal media elite have become rather choosy when it comes to advocating stem-cell cures for degenerative medical conditions. To these commentators, cures using adult stem cells just aren't the "right" cures. For stem-cell therapy to really count, it has to come from embryos. Indeed, even the most astonishing research advances using adult cells are ignored by these arbiters of public policy as if they never happened. And since liberal elites dominate public discourse in the stem-cell debate, the American people remain generally unaware of these astonishing scientific advances.

The federal government poured more than $200 million into adult-stem-cell research and about $25 million into embryonic-stem-cell research in 2003. In addition, private investors have abundantly invested in adult-stem-cell research, while generally shunning embryonic and human cloning research, largely because adult therapies are so much closer to fruition than embryonic approaches.

Adult stem cells are less totipotent than embryonic stem cells. Quit being sentimental about a ball of cells. A ball of cells is not the same as a person in a coma or a 8 month old fetus.

I think using that ball of cells to cure paralysis or alzheimers is the moral thing to do. The slippery slope argument is a crutch used to rationalize fundy BS. The only reason religious people consider this an issue is because they are taught that a soul enters at conception. Sorry guys, there is no such thing as a soul.

Tired of ads?

Now the question is whether the fundamentalist conservatives will turn on Frist and tear him apart for having split with Party dogma.

I think the thread title is rather offending, considering it's meant tauntingly.

It's not necessarily offensive just to him, but also to people who've had experience with Alzheimer patients...

Got spare money?

In any case, this wasn't a taunt. I just noted that this is when republicans usually start supporting stem-cell research.

That seems rather likly to me as Frist is NOT a tiny ball of stem cells the Cristian Right will have no qualls over tearing him limb from limb, burning the pieces and feeding the meat to rabid wolves. The flip side of an idealogy that holds "inocent" life to be precious is the vilification of all thouse "guilty".

I don't think so. I think that this is just one of those rare occasions when a polician does something because he believes it is the right thing to do.
