Is CIV3 dead?

It's slowing down a lot with Civ4 on the horizon. People certainly still play it, but we've more or less figured the game out by now. There isn't much to discuss.

As Civ4 gets closer, I expect people will be reinstalling old versions of the game and things will pick up a bit. After release, you know the Civ4 forum(s) will be packed full and it'll be near impossible to keep a thread on the front page

I noticed civ3 strategy is still fairly busy. I got a fairly quick response to my thread, 6 responses too.

Doc is right. I've never seen it so slow on Poly before - it's summertime in the Northern hemisphere....

A lot of "Civ3" talk still happens, but it's in the Civ4 section. Usually framed in "in hate it in Civ3 when such-n-such happens. I hope they program Civ4 differently to fix that"

I expect activity in this forum to increase after Civ4 is released. Since it's impossible to please everyone, I suppose that some players will be disappointed with Civ4 and will return to Civ3, just like lots of players returned to Civ2 and SMAC after Civ3 was released.

You have not seen the PBEM section, have you? Or the 3 multiteam demogames?

Civ3 is still going strong. It's just that, as the AI is so bad, we have to take it out on other humans...

good point. Lots of PBEMs going on right now in the Civ3 section

I belive the general civ III forum is pretty much dead.

If it's stategy tips your looking for go to the civ III startegy section which is active.

I imagine in a few months the general section will be merged into strategy.

Now if it's PBEM games your interested in, there are tons in that section.

None of the above, I'm afraid, just suprised how dead this place was when I was passing through. Time was you could get a ban for posting three threads here. These days you would be the saviour of the forum.

the AI is better than in SMAC.

But SMAC is a better game. So the AI importance is overrated.

And I don't have Civ3 installed anymore (been a year since I last played it) so I have nothing to say anyway
