If only Nehru had . . . . . . Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

. . . . . delayed going to the UN until India had recaptured Kashmir , there would have been no terrorist training camps in Kashmir/Pakistan , no support to Al-Kaeda from the ISI ( Pakistan's intelligence agency ) , no 9/11 , no Madrid bombings , no London bombings , no Afghanistan war , no Iraq war , and no fear of Pakistani WMD/nukes falling into terrorist hands . Two days . A dealy of two f***in' days . That's what could have prevented this huge mess .

He wanted to appear a "statesman" who "took his place on the world stage" . No national interest went into that decision . And because he did not act on India's national interest , he created this mess .

You're assuming the Muslim population would not have rebelled.

A better scenario is...if only Jeda had not pulled Pakistan out of India but would have settled for strong guarantees of minority rights. No Pakistani-Indian wars, no nukes in sourthern Asia, and the world's largest democracy in perpetual peace working for the good of all of its peoples.

Full PM-box? Change here!

If India had recaptured all of Kashmir the Pakistanis would have continued sending rebels into Kashmir anyway. Nothing short of giving them Kashmir would have satisfied them at that time. The major Islamic Jihad movements operating in Europe and the Middle East have very little to do with Pakistan's lust for Kashmir, but instead their origins are largely related to the Arab - Israeli conflict. If you ask these guys what motivates them to fight the west they'll talk first about Iraq and Afghanistan, then about Israel, then about western domination of world trade and culture. If you're lucky some of them might be aware of the conflict between Pakistan and India, but then if that were their concern they wouldn't be bothering with New York, Washington, Madrid and London.

....not used US monetary foreign aid to deplete the US gold reserves so that he could make a quick buck on the international gold markets the US Congress might not have slashed the US foreign aid budget down to next to nothing and tens of millions of people around the world might be better off.

Put an end to popups!

Not directly - but the Pakistani policy of state-supported terrorism would not have had a chance . This in turn would have caused the ISI to not support Al-Queda ( or at least not as much ) , and would most likely have prevented 9/11 - they would not have had the resources ( or training ) necessary .

Most terrorists in the Western world are trained in either Pakistani or Afghanistani training camps . The initial training in terrorist methods and that initial expertise came from the ISI - Pakistan's intelligence agency .

What would be the problem of just having Kashmir become it's own political entity?

(and yes, I support Kashmir going to one of the two countries)

Wouldn't it just solve the ongoing border dispute between Pakistan and India?

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

As far as I know, it's the territory itself. Nevermind what resources may or may not be there, the land itself is worth fighting over. There isn't much unclaimed land on the planet anymore, so everyone is fighting for whatever is left.

It definitely won't . If I've learnt anything about the Pakistani establishment , it has taught me that they will "manufacture" a dispute with Kashmir and use that as excuse to invade Kashmir . Not only that , but Kashmir is not strong enough to resist any of the powers that surround it ( India , Pakistan , or China ) . If it has to go to some nation , then I hope it goes to the only democratic one of the three .

Why would China be interested in Kashmir? I thought this was a purely India-Pakistan dispute? Maybe I'm pretty ignorant, but I didn't know China had a vested interest in what's going on in Kashmir...

IIRC, China has occupied a slice of Cashmir along Cashmir's eastern border.

After sifting through some sources, China controls an area called the Aksai Chin. According to a number of non-Indian, non-Chinese sources, the Chinese claim is strong.

At any rate, the PRC has never claimed sovereignity over the entire Kashmir, just the area north of the traditional boderline (as opposed to the "McMahon Line"). If this area overlaps with Kashmiran territory, I reckon it is incidental.

india, pakistan and china should all get out of kashmir and let it be independent, it would solve the dispute and it's what most of the people want. of course it will never happen, but there you go
