That i do have a problem with. Seems like the new chief has just stated to the media that all the gun play is attributed to guns smuggled up from the states.
I would like to know just how they can prove this.

Flub! Actually, you're quite right...we didn't disagree in any of the text you posted...only in the sentiment that you seem to be in support of gun control, and I'm on the other side of that fence.
And nope...I don't disagree with anything in your earlier posts, except with the conclusion that these reasons are sufficient cause to implement an outright ban or even tighter gun control.
The "nuke" question, oft raised by Ted Stryker....I'd support it NOT being made publically available, of course, and my reasoning FOR that would be that (since Dubya is still Prez...unfortunately...I'll use his vernacular) "nucular" stuff ought to be considered a strategic resource and kept out of the hands of the general public as a matter of policy.
As for the mortar...I'm all for it (even tho I've never seen the need, nor a reason to own one of those either). I think, though, that such ownership should come with strings, already spelled out in our constitution. Owning such weapons should require one to register as part of a "well regulated militia."
And glad you liked the tangent!

No, they're not. They're about one-fourth as likely to be fatal.

I'm amazed that they let the survivor go so quickly. In a fair draw it's generally likely that the first man to go for his gun is going to be the one who wins. Did the man who died fumble his weapon? If I were the police I'd be inclined to hold the killer for a decent interval while I investigated.

Actually I think I said in two different ways that I didn't know if gun control would have prevented this or if any law would have prevented these guys from carrying
My problem is that I HATE guns. Never owned one and never saw the need. But I can respect people who choose to own a gun and my discomfort with them shouldn't rule.
I do think that Americans have taken their constitutional right to bear arms to an extreme when they ignore the part about a well regulated militia. At the same time I am practical enough to know that gun control in the US is a joke given the huge numbers of guns out there. heck it would take 50 years to make a dent in the armaments out there and in the meantime you would have a situation where only the MOST law abiding of citizens would not have guns

I call BS
err I see Dr Strangelove already has and I'll take his assertion on this over yours.
In addition I bet there are a lot of times where two knives can get drawn and each party just backs away-- heck just one of them backs away-- no wounds at all. In the same situation with guns drawn, someone will usually get shot-- its just so easy.
Again, I'll acknowledge that people can kill each other with a wide range of things . . . all I want the pro-gun folks to aknowledge is that guns make killing so sickeningly easy.
Add in that many murders are NOT planned in any way and in fact the perpetrator is usually genuinely remorseful. So many stupid stupid altercations which might have ended with someone getting pushed down but instead ends with someone dead simply becasue a gun was near at hand
I don't know that gun control could ever work in the US and am saddened to see a culture that values them so very much
