Hey, the thought just occured to me that we could call for elections again, right? Because the previous governor will remain...incapacitated for the foreseeable future. The two candidates would be Yang and us. Even if Yang won, we would still indirectly benefit from Yang researching techs more quickly (giving us techs through the PDL more quickly). We also want Yang to be as strong as he can be while he's at war with others and not with us.

Slowing the tech rate:

[1]..... If we change our 4 librarians into technicians, we drop our next tech to 4 years away (and income form 32 to 44).

[2]..... If we then move the sliders from 50/0/50 to 60/0/40, next tech comes in 5 years, and income grows to 67 per turn

[3]..... Move sliders to 70/0/30 and tech comes in 7 years, and income grows to 71 per turn

I suggest the 3rd (we can always fine-tune next turn after AU builds the Supercollider)

And with us having Yang infiltrated, I don't know if we get the second hand data on the others that he'll get as governor (we got Lal's through the pact status - we never did infiltrate Lal)

Is it even worth our trying to solicit votes?

IIRC Zak is now running 60% labs. And we know Zak has the tendency to randomly switch his energy allocations.
So how about making the gamble that Zak lowers his research and researches the tech in five instead of five years??
If we then research AMA in three years, and get CentEmp in four years, would we then be able to give Zak all the techs we have, so that he doesn't do duplicate research?

Meanwhile, should we try diplomacy to get bio-engineering from Morgan and MMI from the Angels?

offer morgan a tech, a treaty with Zak, and a Global trade pact, maybe, in exchange for bioEng?

Offer the Angels a couple of lower level techs plus a Global trade pact for MMI?

After all, it's in our interests, as tech leaders, to see others get more techs so that their costs increase (our won't change as our TECHS and MOSTTECHS number is the same)

Shall I go ahead and call elections before finalizing the turn?

Some tortuous thinking:

I don't think we should give up on the HSA yet.
The Angels probably just know what we're researching: AMA. They believe it will take us around 15 years to get PSA, not knowing we'll do as was said here: Zak gives it us and we report all our points to instaget PSA!

So, believing they are far ahead in the lead, PERHAPS they won't push their advantage and let Labs at 50% to get more money and build.
And WHOOPS, the turtle and the haze!

Another thing: to confuse them a little more, why not ask the Angels to trade with us...AMA?
It's a gamble. I bet they won't but asking would make them think we are still far away from getting it...and PERHAPS they'll slow their research.

We should be cautious not to create a monster!

But, yes, Yang is at war with our opponents.
So, why not let the others make the choice: the devil at war with them or the devil waiting in the shadows!

Well, except that they know that Zak is subservient to us, and they have Zak infiltrated, so will know that he (and therefore we) will have AMA in no later than 4 turns' time.

So they know that a leapfrog is in the cards (they'll know, from last turn, from Lal's second-hand info that we are researching AMA as well)

Set research to AMA in 3 turns

Sent diplo-box messages to all 3 asking their price for Centauri Empathy (Gaians), Bio-engineering (Morgan), and AMA and MMI (Angels)

Also asked if they have a price to support our candidacy for Planetary Governor

let's see what that stirs up

deadline is 1/2 hour away, so endturn.sav posted below, (but not yet sent on to the Gaians)

I'll wait till the deadline in case there's second thoughts on the diplo front from anyone

Morgan has Zak infiltrated, but when did the Angels infiltrate him?

Weren't they pacted at one time, if my memory is correct? If so, infiltration would be a cakewalk to the A's. Our probes were placed in Zak's cities after we enslaved him, to prevent techsteal - I've always assumed that he was infiltrated.

Maybe I'm wrong

IIRC they were pacted with Morgan for one year, upon which we promptly asked Zak to declare war on Morgan.

Hmm - you're right. I've looked back in 5 year increments and Zak was never pacted with the Angels

Worth asking for AMA then.

It's strange that people want an ACDG4 with only one faction because, as is said, they prefer more roleplay and faction squabbling, and on the other hand there's so little activity in the général forum.

Our Phalanx and stories? Got cryptic one-liners at best...
