	just played AC for the last time Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

sorry, couldn't resist this copycat thread.

But it makes me wonder. When will I finish playing this game? Surely it isn't realistic to be playing this game 20 or 30 years from now is it? Eventually our computers will break down, and we won't be able to find machines to run this game. I'm sure ebay has old computers, but eventually those will dry up.

I was thinking of donating my old computer to some charity. but on second thought, maybe I'll keep it. I know it runs the game. And my current computer runs the game as well. I'd like to keep it that way.

Well, if our computers breakdown and new computers don't work, I'm sure some enterprising programmer will develop an emulator just has been done for Atari, SNES and other consoles. Granted a console is easier to emulate, but the code for emulating Wintel machines is already in the market (SoftPC, VMWare, et. al.)

SMAC is very much slowly becoming like chess, it's an old game but people still enjoy playing it.


THAT is the test of a true game. How old is chess? Old. SMAC is like that.

Ummm, no, SMAC can't really be compared to Chess.

More like TradeWars, originally developed for mainframe computers almost 30 years ago. It doesn't run on the same code now, obviously, but the game has been turned into a MMOG.

For SMAC to survive it must change.

I would think your proudest moments would relate to the creation of some fabulous maps and some very creative challenges

My family would lament I wasted my entire life playing silly computer games.

My wife gave me a computer as an engagement gift. I'm a geek (or techy nerd), feel completely comfortable as such, and don't try to hide it. My hobby is AC CMN'ing and Creation, which my family understands and supports.

I have years invested in playing this game!!! Why would I stop playing!!

I had a good scare a few weeks ago! I had to reload my entire computer, after being hit with a horrible virus or worm. It took out my Restore files and Cookies and I wasnt able to save Cookies or Restore anymore. Couldnt fix it, So we wiped the computer clean and reloaded. My Computer needed a good cleanout anyway!!

So when I loaded SMAC and SMAX well wouldnt run........Operating system didnt change or anything, but I needed the drivers for my monitor updated! But the things that were going through my head!!!!!! NO!!!!!!! Dont do this to me!!!!

I am so afraid to get a new computer!!! I dont want to give up this game!

I have so many games sitting here that I love to play that have become obsolete. And I hope SMAX will never be added to that pile!

And he's very good at it too . .. I am test driving his latest solo challenge and it is fun fun fun as usual-- I have learned with Darsnan to trust NOTHING about how the game usually works

im not sure i understand the original poster right.your quiting smac because like all things it will end someday? why not just kill yourself,you will die someday and might as well get it on with....

yes chess cant be compared to smac because it dosnt measure up... chess can be and will be solved someday,and a computer will play it to perfection. smac may be unbalanced,but chess has had hundreds of years of rule editing to get it to be even. smac has only had a few years. with the random events and the random map, i dont think smac could be 'solved'
