Unofficial Opinion Poll - pop the hut that is NE of Apolyton? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

We have found a Hut, 8-8-9-9-9-9 from Apolyton and it's also 8-8-9-9-9 from Million Dollar Worker. It will be 2 turns, before we can possibly pop that hut.

See turn 18 Thread/Report for screenshot

We know that CBR and CDZ both have settlers running around. We know that CBR got CB from a hut. We Won't have a settler, in our build Queue, for 5 more turns (from the next turn, turn 19), so we DO have some time before we pop and not have to deal with changing builds to accomidate changing to get a better chance for a settler.

The thing is, CBR's warrior is close by. We have our available units, keeping a watch on them. We have a narrow window, currently, with keeping IW from slipping another turn.

So, if we pop that hut and it's full of Barbs, we will very likely, because of moving our Garrison out to take care of them, have IW slip back one more turn.

And then, we still don't know what CBR is going to do.

So, the question is:
Do we pop the hut now, or wait a bit before we do??

This Poll will be open for 3 days.

Try to pop the hut at the time where we have a chance at grabbing a settler (e.g. When CDZ and CBR found their cities).

makes sense... However, barbarians are not that much of a threat with our UU, and I am a little worried another team pops it first..

Don't we already have a chance to pop a settler? The average # of cities is 1, which will rise as people found second cities. We only have to be below or at the average #, don't we?

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

Yep, I think so Kloreep.

Pop it now. No need to wait, EXCEPT to possibly make a tech trade to eliminate the chance of us getting CB from it.

If we get barbs, we can fight them off easy enough. We have 2 units near home, and 1 by the hut.

Assuming this, we could pop it right now.

I went searching for hut rules and according to http://www.civfanatics.com/civ3/strategy/goodyhuts.php I'm wrong: we must have less cities than average.

This cannot be true. If it were, then how to you explain when you get a settler from a hut when everyone only has one city? If what that thread says is true, then it would be impossible to pop a settler until someone has a second city.

No, that would mean that we couldn't pop a hut until 51% had 2nd cities out. That doesn't make sense.

I thought that you always had a chance at grabbing a settler (except if you have one or have one in production), just the odds of getting one go up as others get cities.

I'd say pop it right away. Our chances for a settler won't increase too much if we waited a couple turns, anyway. Better to get it now before anyone else does - keep in mind, another scout could still be just a few tiles away.

I'd wait one or two turns until CBR settles... unless they have found a perfect spot relatively far from their start, they should be settling soon...
