england events Got spare money?

events for england are pretty interesting. Gresham, Royal Navy, Walsingham, London Stock Exchange, all added lots of flavor - and in the negative column, the Northern Rebellion.

From a gameplay, viewpoint, it seems the Gresham and LSE events could be exploited by player who knows there coming - in my case i had kept inflation low, and so lost some of the inflation reducing benefit (Recall i started in 1492) I could have run up inflation higher and then let the events bring inflation back down.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

That is the one weakness of EU2. Once you know what is coming it becomes a lot easier.

Most countries are fairly neutral on inflation. Spain is a struggle to keep inflation down whilst England is a struggle to keep inflation up. (hint: England gets a total of 4 scripted deflation events totalling -35%. You've had the first 2 but will have to wait a bit for the others )

I rather had to give up on playing the major powers in vanilla because it gets too easy, even on VH difficulty. However the minors often don't have many events so are a bit colourless in character. I guess that's why most people move on to the various mods (I'm enjoying Europa Portugalis as a rather harder challenge).

well i continue to believe that to play a game like this you need to roleplay. A history game HAS to have things that you can predict, (and setting triggers so that alternate history is plausible, and not history on rails, doesnt help on this) and thats gonna be exploitable. You have to decide - are you a transplant from the future who knows everything in advance, or are you just someone particulalry clever and pragmatic, but with limited foreknowledge, or are you someone as blinded by a particular viewpoint as the locals - and RP from there. For ex, do send an explorer in the direction you KNOW good stuff is, or where he would likely have been sent at the time?

And of course im not finding England all that easy yet, largely cause i started in 1492, I think, and France and Spain were already formed.

Ive finally (1574) gotten DP to the point where i have stead missionaries (one every two years, which is quite enough)and can use Liz for conversions. Ive succeeded with one of the two remaining Reform provinces in England, and am working the other one (if that hits, I will adjust the religion sliders to tolerate Catholicism - now that would almost be worth writing something, to explain the RP justification ) Then the next missionaries go to Ireland.

Id like to fight Scotland, take a province or two and vassalize them (theyve done well, have taken mecklenburg and parts of Norway, but i dont want those provinces) - but i dont yet have sufficient manpower to keep an army in england (after allowing for garrisons in Ireland and the colonies) to have the margin over Scotland id like. Chief Judges in english provinces should help manpower, no? Ive built one, am building another.

Ive got a refinery in barbados (As well as two in england) Im thinking of building another in Puerto Rico, but for now am putting money into missions and judges.

I know manus get more expensive over time, but not sure what drives that - time, inflation, number built, etc in what combination - couldnt find anything on Paradox forums that explained that.

Easy justification - English Catholics do a deal with the monarchy to accept the King/Queen on secular matters and keep their religion out of politics. They almost did this 50 years later when Cromwell was in charge. Monarchies of the period generally found religions with a hierarchy of bishops, ie catholic and protestant, easier to control than the independent congregations of the reformed faith.

Manus get more expensive the more you build, particularly of one type. Inflation increases the basic cost by a direct percentage. I usually build about 4 of each, then concentrate on goods and refineries only.

I hope you are trading as heavily as possible. Elizabeth's good ADM rating helps place merchants, particularly in the quieter CoT's like Astrakhan.

I assume you have governors everywhere. If not I find it better to go for infra 5 straight after infra 4 then mint to put first governors and then judges everywhere. After that I set the slider to mint around 0.20 inflation per year so there is a slight decrease over time.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

on trade, ive been placing moderately aggressively. I have high free trade, so even Anglia costs 3, and the other euro COTs cost 9. Im inclined to shift one over to Mercantilism next chance I get.

Im still researching Infra 5. I have no inflation problems, but i guess Infra 5 is valuable for the higher prod level, as well as governors.

Id also like to get land and naval high enough to build manus - ive got the one naval manu by event.

I have 3 refineries - I got one i think by an England event (stock market?) one by a random event(?), and one I built in Barbados. Puerto Rico is at population 930, with 11% growth, so I'll let them grow and hopefully have ducats for a refinery when PR becomes a city. Meanwhile I have provinces in Ireland to convert, and judges to promote.

All assuming I stay at peace with Scotland.
